Community Service Unit and Environmental Development

It exploits all the scientific capabilities and advisory expertise of the academic staff as well as laboratory capabilities in solving environmental problems related to the engineering aspects of infrastructure (roads, water, sewage, electricity, and communications). In addition to the Construction and industrial development, research projects and training courses through which it contributes effectively to the development and progress of society.

The proposed general structure of the unit

Raising awareness of community service and environmental development:

The Faculty has a leading and important role in serving the community and developing the surrounding environment in Upper Egypt. It performs this role to meet the needs of the surrounding community through its various activities and services through the Engineering Consultancy Center, workshops, laboratories, scientific equipment maintenance center, training courses and seminars. The Faculty carries out many measures to raise awareness of community service and environmental development for both students, academic staff, assistants, employees and beneficiary community entities in the form of posters and leaflets. The Faculty also has awareness programs as part of the Faculty’s plan to serve the community and develop the environment (annex S-7/1/1-A).

Plan and community needs

Based on the study of the needs and priorities of the surrounding community, the Faculty has prepared an approved plan for community service and environmental development - as part of the strategic plan of the Faculty (2010-2015) - based on a set of objectives and goals that work to maximize the role of the Faculty in the environmental development of the surrounding community (Annex S-7/1-1-A).

Examples of the Faculty's practices include

Organizing many training courses for engineers and technicians in companies and industrial institutions and included many engineering and environmental topics inside and outside the Faculty.
Organizing a series of seminars and exhibitions that serve the community.
The special units of the Faculty, which are represented by the Center for Engineering Studies and Consultancy, the workshop unit and the scientific reporting unit, which offers many engineering services and technical support to the beneficiaries both inside and outside the university.

Participation of community parties in the college council

The Faculty is keen to activate the participation of parties to a community in its councils, as two of the heads of the boards of directors of companies and engineering institutions participate in the faculty’s council. Board of directors consists of a member from quality assurance unit as well as, The faculty is keen on documenting ways of cooperation between it and the beneficiaries in the field of education development and performance quality assurance, as well as community service and environmental development, through many meetings with representatives of these bodies.

Satisfaction of societal parties

Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental is keen to measure the satisfaction of societal parties and labor market organizations with their role in society and their level of performance and the level of their graduates through the Development by surveying the opinion of the concerned parties as well as their satisfaction in the labor market. As a result the faculty sets development plans at the level of educational programs and at the level of community service and environmental development.
