In a fatherly humanitarian gesture, Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, surprised the students of the media department at the Faculty of Arts with a visit during the judging session of the graduation journalism projects, which was held on Sunday morning, June 22, 2025, amid a distinguished scientific and professional atmosphere.
The jury of this year's journalism graduation projects was composed of an elite group of academics and journalists, namely: Dr. Samah Jamal, faculty member of the media department, professor Lola Atta, office manager of Al-Asboa newspaper, correspondent of Extra News and Channel One in Assiut, and Professor Islam Radwan, journalist at Al-Ahram Foundation.
During the visit, the president of the university was keen to hold a friendly supportive dialogue with the students, in which he stressed the importance of this stage as a real starting point towards their professional future, stressing the need to invest the available possibilities within the University, and work to develop their editorial and technical skills in line with the requirements of the developing labor market.
Dr. El-Minshawy pointed out that the university is moving at a steady pace towards excellence, thanks to its implementation of the development strategy (2024-2029), which has begun to bear fruit in various sectors, and reflected on the University's progress in international rankings, the latest of which is achieving a jump of 100 positions in the Times sustainable development rating for 2025.
He explained that the university had presented a comprehensive presentation of its strategy to the minister of higher education, during his visit to Assiut University and the convening of the Supreme Council of universities in 2023, which strengthened the confidence of local and international authorities in the efficiency of Assiut University and its leadership.
He concluded his visit with a motivational message to media students, in which he called on them to continue to develop their abilities and take advantage of all available opportunities, stressing that excellence does not come by chance, but is the result of hard work, planning and continuous training.
The projects come under the supervision of: Dr. Ahmed Abdulmoula, vice president for education and Student Affairs, Dr. Magdy Alwan, dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Mohammed Abu Rahab, vice dean for education and Student Affairs, Dr. Rahab Al-Dakhili, head of the media department, media advisor to the president of the University and general supervisor of the projects.
The judging of the projects witnessed the presentation of general and specialized magazines, a number of newspapers, a number of supplements, as well as projects submitted by international students, all of which were distinguished by the diversity of their contents, and dealt with topics related to education, sports, women's issues, and community concerns, in a realistic embodiment of the editorial and artistic skills acquired by students.
The academic and technical supervision of the projects was carried out by: Dr. Abdullah Khalifa, journalism teacher and supervisor of press projects, Ms. Shamus Al-Qadi, Miss. Hader Mohammed (editorial supervision), Miss. Hader Ayman (technical supervision)
The organization of this event comes as a confirmation of the media department's commitment to qualify its students for the requirements of the labor market, by integrating academic study with practical application, and keeping abreast of modern developments in the field of journalism and media work.
