Assiut University announces that a student team from the Faculty of Engineering has won seventh place in the world in an American competition for designing and programming a self-driving car.

Tarek El-Gamal, President of Assiut University, announced that a student team from the Faculty of Engineering won the seventh place in the world in the “Extended Reality Challenge-Autonomous Vehicles” competition within the activities of the Engineering Festival organized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in the United States.

Dr. Shehata Ghareeb, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, confirmed that this type of competitions is the first of its kind, as it includes advanced techniques for simulation in the virtual reality of self-driving cars, which is the future of car technology, and it is the team’s goal to work on this type of technology to keep pace with the development in the vehicles industry.

Dr. Shehata Ghareeb also confirmed that the student team’s participation came within the framework of the Science and Innovation Club activity in the General Administration of Youth Welfare under the supervision of Dr. Ghada Abdel Rahman, the professor at the faculty of Nursing and the scientific activity advisor at the Higher Committee for Activities, and Walid Zeidan, the Director of the Scientific Activity Department with Youth Sponsorship.

Dr. Nubi Mohamed Hassan, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering revealed that the student team includes 4 students, all of whom are from different academic teams in the Departments of Mechanics and Mechatronics at the Faculty of Engineering, and that the competition is organized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers within the activities of the Engineering Festival in the United States of America, which is an affirmation of what the college includes of distinguished students who work diligently to renew their status, gain advanced places in all international forums, and represent Assiut University in a decent and honorable manner.

Dr. Ezzat Abdel Moneim Marghani, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Education and Student Affairs, indicated that the team consists of four students: Nizar Ibrahim, Abdel Rahman Arafa, Mohamed Mahmoud, Amr Mostafa

The student team stated that the competition was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Saad, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Engineer Rami Antar, the Demonstrator in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and that the competition is about designing and programming a self-driving car and simulating its work in virtual reality, and that the team seeks to be a pioneer in this type of vehicles.
