ASSIUT UNIVERSITY WITNESSES THE CONCLUSION OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM TO QUALIFY SOCIAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL WORKERS TO CONFRONT EXTREMISM AND TAKFIRIST IDEOLOGY.

Under the auspices of Dr. Tariq Al-Jamal, President of Assiut University, Dr. Maha Ghanem, Vice-Chancellor of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development and Supervisor of the Faculty of Social Service witnessed the conclusion of the training programme commissioned by the Higher Council of Universities for the Sector of Community Service and Environmental Development at the level of Egyptian Universities. As well as the outstanding participation of more than 35 trainees from psychologists and social workers faculties of the University of Science and Literature and the General Department of Youth Welfare and the University Campus.

At the beginning of her speech, Dr. Maha Ghanem stressed the eagerness of the university administration in adopting scientific and awareness seminars aimed at qualifying all its members and faculty members on the key role of guiding students on moderate and informed thinking and how to address misinformation and refute extremist and negative ideas by providing training programs for specialists on how to deal with these phenomena and study their causes and results to qualify promising generations of students.

Dr. Saudi Mohammed Hassan explained that the training includes a number of important axes, notably the identification of the concept of terrorism and extremism and the difference between them and the causes leading to terrorism and extremism, and how to deal with the takfiri mentality and psychosocial treatment of the takfiri and how to monitor cases of extremism from Egyptian universities, whether ideas, behaviors or concepts suggesting the existence of terrorism. He hoped that the programme would come up with recommendations that would help inhibit young people from embracing destructive ideas and correct their misconceptions and also the ability to overcome and solve problems faced by students through leadership, management, negotiation and language development.
