The President of Assiut University gives the start signal for the experimental phase to operate a respirator ventilator designed by a student team of the university's sons

Dr. Tarek El-Gamal, President of Assiut University, praised the university students' creativity and excellence in various fields based on creativity and innovation in various fields, and their ability to compete in all forums and competitions and achieve advanced positions locally and internationally.

This came during his meeting with a student team from the university, who was chosen among the best five projects at the level of the Republic to implement a low-cost ventilator in the national competitions organized by Ain Shams University in cooperation with the Academy of Scientific Research, where the meeting took place in the presence of Dr. Shehata Gharib, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs , and Dr. Imad Zarif, the assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care and the academic supervisor of the team, and Professor Lola Atta, director of the Innovative Projects and Student Creativity Unit at the university.

The President of Assiut University revealed that during the meeting, he gave the signal to start the phase of the experimental operation of the device, which was designed and implemented by the Innovative Projects and Student Creativity Unit at the university in a distinct manner that reflects the students’ efficiency and skills and the high and accurate level of training and supervision they have, as well as the need to start addressing the competent authorities in order to take the necessary measures to manufacture the device on a large scale in order to take advantage represented in its low cost and ease of manufacture, assembly and maintenance.

For his part, Prof. Shehata Ghareeb, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, explained that the student team consists of three groups, one of whom is medical, one specialized in electrical manufacturing and a mechanical design group, under the supervision of a distinguished academics who briefed the team on respirators of various types so that the design is appropriate for the condition of patients and taking into account the standards of safety required.

Dr. Shehata Gharib indicated that the device was supported, implemented and supervised by the Innovative Projects Unit, which aims to encourage university youth and students from various faculties to present innovative, advanced projects that contribute effectively to the economic construction of the state, in cooperation with all concerned bodies and institutions in this regard.

Dr. Imad Zarif, the academic supervisor of the team, explained that the selection of students came within the framework of the national competition to design a low-cost ventilator that helps respiratory failure and corona patients who need to be placed on a ventilator, which witnessed the competition of 100 teams from across the governorates of the Republic.

Engineer Ahmed Samir, Executive Supervisor of the Innovative Projects Unit, added that the ventilator works by carefully dealing with computers and control systems, as well as displaying patient data to the treating physician with setting alarms to warn if any problem or technical failure occurs in the device, with the ability to operate the device with an external battery in case of a power outage. The team is looking forward to linking the device to the WI-FI network so that the treating physician can follow up from a distance, regarding the increasing number of patients.

Professor Lola Atta, director of the unit, praised the university administration’s keenness to provide all means of support and care for the unit, which reflects their constant and continuous endeavor to encourage students and adopt their creative ideas and creative projects, explaining that the team includes students and graduates from the faculties of medicine and engineering, and they are Rami Antar, Mustafa Muhad Mahmoud, Abdel Aziz Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Mahmoud Saad, Mohamed Yousry Abdel Radi, Amr Adel, Mohamed Abdel Fattah, Ahmed Mohamed Saad.
