Students from the STEM School for Science and Technology in Asyut visit the Faculty of Engineering at Assiut University and attend a scientific lecture.
On Monday, November 2, 2026, the Faculty of Engineering at Assiut University welcomed a delegation of first-year secondary students from the STEM School for Science and Technology in Asyut. The students visited the Department of Architecture as part of the Faculty’s educational activities and its commitment to community engagement. The visit was held under the auspices of University President Prof. Ahmed Abdel-Mawla and Faculty Dean Prof. Khaled Salah.
The delegation consisted of 65 students, accompanied by five supervisors and teachers. The visit was organized in response to a request from the school administration to assist the students with their scientific project, "Insulate It!"—a "Capstone Challenge" for the first-semester, tenth-grade course, "Matter, Form, and Function." The project involves designing a prototype for a passive insulation system that relies on material properties and geometric forms—without the use of electrical or electronic components—covering thermal, acoustic, light, and moisture insulation.
The Dean of the Faculty welcomed the students and their supervisors, expressing his pleasure at their visit. He emphasized the Faculty’s dedication to supporting high-achieving students, fostering their connection to the university environment, and providing them with opportunities to benefit from the academic and practical expertise available at the Faculty. Also participating in welcoming the guests were Prof. Shehata El-Dabaa Abdel-Rahim, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Prof. Khaled Ali Youssef, Head of the Architecture Department; Prof. Mahmoud Onaib Othman, Director of the Quality Assurance Unit at the Faculty; and Prof. Walid Abu El-Wafa, former coordinator of the Construction Engineering program.
The delegation was received by Prof. Khaled Ali Youssef, Head of the Architecture Department, who co-presented the lecture alongside Mohamed Hossam, an assistant lecturer in the department, and Fares Makhlouf, a teaching assistant in the department.
The lecture covered fundamental concepts of building insulation and its various types, as well as the role of material properties and geometric configuration in mitigating the transmission of heat, sound, light, and water. The presenters addressed students' questions regarding their projects and provided guidance to assist them in selecting materials and refining their designs.
At the conclusion of the visit, commemorative photographs were taken of the students and their supervisors with the Dean of the Faculty and members of the department’s academic staff.
The school administration expressed its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Faculty of Engineering at Assiut University for their warm welcome and ongoing cooperation in supporting students and facilitating scientific visits, which contribute to the development of the students' research and practical skills.
