It is a deciduous or  evergreen tree with boldly variegated large leaves of dark green, grey green and white. Fast growing. It has a bushy habit, and the leaves are thick and leathery and tiny flowers borne within a hollow receptacle which enlarges to form the fruit. 
The tree is native to the UK.
