Assiut University Council Affirms Commitment to Strengthening Cooperation with Assiut Governorate in Support of Development Plans

The Assiut University Council held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 24, under the chairmanship of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, and in the presence of Major General Mohamed Alwan, Governor of Assiut, together with the University's vice presidents, Secretary-General, deans of faculties, and advisors to the University President. The meeting addressed a number of issues related to the University's educational, research, and community service activities.

At the outset of the meeting, Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy welcomed Major General Mohamed Alwan and expressed his appreciation for the Governor's participation in the Council meeting, noting that it reflects the strong and ongoing partnership between Assiut University and Assiut Governorate and reinforces their joint efforts to advance comprehensive development and community service.

The University President also extended his sincere congratulations to His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and to the Egyptian people on the anniversary of the June 30 Revolution, describing it as a pivotal moment in Egypt's modern history that strengthened the foundations of stability and paved the way for a new era of national development and achievement.

Professor El-Minshawy paid tribute to the members of the Egyptian Armed Forces for their enduring role in safeguarding the nation and preserving its security and stability. He also honored the memory of the country's martyrs from the Armed Forces, Police, and civilians who sacrificed their lives for Egypt.

He further highlighted the major national development projects currently being implemented across various sectors despite global challenges and rapid international developments, emphasizing that these initiatives reflect the State's vision for comprehensive development and contribute to strengthening Egypt's position while promoting continued progress and prosperity.

For his part, Major General Mohamed Alwan praised the University's remarkable progress across its academic, research, medical, and community service sectors. He noted that these achievements reflect visionary leadership and sustained efforts to strengthen the University's position as a leading educational institution serving both Assiut Governorate and Upper Egypt. He also commended the University's role as one of the region's foremost centers of scientific expertise and academic excellence.

The Governor further praised the University's contributions, under the leadership of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, to national development through the provision of scientific expertise and specialized consultations supporting major national and development projects. He also congratulated the members of the University Council on the approaching anniversary of the June 30 Revolution.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy also congratulated the Egyptian national football team on its historic victory over New Zealand during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking Egypt's first-ever World Cup win. He described the achievement as a source of pride for all Egyptians and a testament to the ability of the nation's people to accomplish remarkable successes and raise Egypt's profile internationally.

The University President expressed his appreciation to faculty members and administrative staff for their dedicated efforts throughout the academic year and the examination period. He praised their contributions to ensuring the smooth administration of examinations and emphasized the importance of promptly completing grading procedures, finalizing examination results, and announcing them without delay.

Professor El-Minshawy also reviewed the University's most significant achievements during the previous month. He expressed pride in the Faculty of Engineering students whose graduation project resulted in a research paper published in a prestigious international journal. He also highlighted the international success of one of the Faculty's graduates, whose team won second place worldwide in the final round of the Huawei ICT Competition held in China.

He further commended the outstanding graduation projects presented across the University's various faculties, noting that they demonstrate the students' promising talents and innovative ideas deserving of continued support and encouragement.

The University President also praised the continued accomplishments of Assiut University's physicians and healthcare professionals within the University Hospitals, noting that several highly specialized and complex surgical procedures—performed for the first time in Upper Egypt—reflect the advanced scientific, medical, and clinical capabilities achieved by the University's healthcare system.

On the international front, Professor El-Minshawy highlighted the University's continued progress in global rankings. Assiut University was ranked among the top 500 universities worldwide in the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings, advanced 27 places in the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP), and was included in the QS World University Rankings 2027, where it ranked fifth among Egyptian public universities. He noted that these accomplishments reflect the University's growing academic and research reputation internationally.

As part of the University's commitment to providing an integrated educational environment, Professor El-Minshawy pointed to the continued development of the University's residence halls and the enhancement of services provided to students, in addition to upgrading the facilities of the Olympic Village to support sports and student activities.

He also reaffirmed the University's commitment to supporting Egypt's vision for human development and sustainable development through the signing of a cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Health and Population to implement the Presidential Initiative "The Golden 1,000 Days for the Development of the Egyptian Family" and the National Population and Development Strategy, thereby promoting community awareness and supporting the objectives of Egypt Vision 2030.

The Council approved the accreditation of the Continuing Medical Education Unit at the Faculty of Dentistry as an accredited continuing education provider by the American Dental Association Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP). The decision reflects the Faculty's academic and professional excellence and is expected to enhance the competitiveness of its graduates in regional and international labor markets.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized that this international accreditation represents a significant addition to the University's medical education system and further strengthens the quality of its continuing education and professional training programs for dental practitioners.

The Council also approved the acceptance of a donation from HVD Life Sciences to support the University's Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory, consisting of a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) system valued at USD 198,950. The donation will enhance the University's research, diagnostic, and laboratory capabilities while strengthening the infrastructure of its specialized laboratories.

In addition, the Council approved the launch of postgraduate diploma programs in Structural Engineering, Irrigation, Hydraulics and Water Resources, and Public Works Engineering within the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, beginning in the first semester of the 2026/2027 academic year, provided that each program enrolls at least five engineers.

The Council also approved the revised internal regulations governing the credit-hour postgraduate programs at the Faculty of Pharmacy, following the required amendments recommended by the relevant sector committee of the Supreme Council of Universities. It likewise approved the revised postgraduate regulations of the Faculty of Specific Education for the Departments of Art Education, Music Education, Home Economics, and Educational Technology.

Furthermore, the Council approved the establishment of the Best Applied Research Award in Energy, effective October 2026, in accordance with the criteria proposed by the Director of the University's Energy Management Center in cooperation with the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector.

The Council also approved amendments to the curriculum of the Marketing and Agricultural Economic Information Systems Program (a tuition-based special program at the Faculty of Agriculture), in accordance with the recommendations of the Interdisciplinary Studies Sector Committee.

Additionally, the Council approved the proposed National Academic Reference Standards for the Sports Health Sciences and Sports Psychology bachelor's degree programs at the Faculty of Sports Sciences.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the University Council approved the appointment of a number of professors and associate professors across various faculties of the University.
