General instructions to patients
- Instructions regarding outpatient clinic visits:
- Patients should firstly book an outpatient clinic visit from the outpatient clinic sector at the main hospital, where a national ID is required.
- Then the patient should head to the Urology Outpatient Reservation Office to get an automatically generated serial number using a pager machine at the office
- A patient who has booked a ticket from the Main Hospital and has reserved a serial number should then be evaluated at the General Urology Outpatient Clinic on his/her first visit. After evaluation, the physician can either order investigations, prescribe treatment and/or refer the patient to a sub-specialized urology clinic.
- A patient who has been previously evaluated at a sub-specialized urology clinic and/or has been operated at the hospital can be reviewed directly at the sub-specialized urology clinic, after booking a ticket from the Main Hospital and reservation of a serial number.
- Instructions regarding hospital admission in free sector:
- The physician orders the required work-up, including laboratory and radiological investigations, ECG and fitness, for a patient who is being prepared for surgery, as well as blood banking as required
- After fulfillment of the work-up, the patient should then pay the operation fees and head towards the General Urology Outpatient Clinic, where the contact data of the patient is recorded in a waiting list.
- When contacted for the scheduled operation, the patient should arrive at the hospital a day before the scheduled operation date to be admitted after verifying appropriate documents, which include the following:
- A valid national ID, confirming the patient is NOT covered by the National Health Insurance.
- surgical fitness, documented on the outpatient clinic
- blood banking confirmation, documented on the outpatient clinic
- A receipt that confirms payment of the operation fees.
- Instructions regarding discharge:
- The discharging physician fills the required data in the discharge page of the patient file, including the final diagnosis, condition on discharge and date of discharge, signs with his/her full name, illustrates to the patient the final diagnosis and discharge instructions, including for example medications, follow up appointment and future operation(s), and finally gives him/her a discharge card containing a brief history of the patient, operative details and follow up instructions and medications
- The patient file is handed out to the Achieve Unit where it is kept for three years.
