In his opening
speech during the inauguration of the Unit for Resisting Harassment at the
Centre for Studies and Research on Human Rights, Dr. Ahmed A. Gaeis, President
of Assiut University asserted the university's strong concern to elevate the
values, concepts, and all ethical codes which incriminate all forms of violence
against women of which harassment comes as a priority. The occasion was honored
by the presence of Dr. Maya Morsy, Chairwoman of the National Council for Women,
Ms. Nehad Abul-Qumsan, Chairwoman of the Egyptian Centre for Human Rights, Mr.
Alexander Bidrosa, representative of United Nation's Fund for Population, Egypt,
Ms. Germine Haddad, Director, Woman's Affairs Programs, Mr. Torhog,
representative of the Norwegian Embassy, Dr. Shehata Ghareeb, Prof. of Law and
Legal Consultant of the Unit, and several other Faculty Members and Deans. In a
similar concern, Dr. Gaeis asserted that the University is apt to provide all
means of support and encouragement to make the Unit effective in eliminating all
forms of abuse and extremities against women to improve the environment and
create a secure and safe atmosphere for females not only on Campus but
everywhere in the community.
