Under the supervision of Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, the University witnessed today the opening of the sixth annual conference of the Department of Urology and Venereology at the Faculty of Medicine, at the Scientific Center of the University Urology and Venereology Hospital, in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Abdel Mawla, vice president of the University for education and Student Affairs, and under the supervision of Dr. Alaa Attiyah, dean of the Faculty of Medicine, chairman of the board of University Hospitals, and Dr. Amani Omar, vice dean of the Faculty of medicine for graduate studies and Research Affairs.
The conference was attended by Dr. Mohamed Chalabi, chairman of the honor of the conference, organized by Dr. Yasser Abdel Salam, head of the department, chairman of the conference, Dr. Medhat al-Hawari, Secretary of the conference, and Dr. Mohamed El Gamal, rapporteur of the conference, with the participation of a group of deans, vice-deans, heads of departments, faculty members, faculties of Medicine, from the Universities of the USA, Germany, and Egyptian universities, including the Universities of Cairo, Ain Shams, Alexandria, Mansoura, Zagazig, Aswan, Qena, Luxor, Sohag, Minya, New Valley, as well as Assiut University.
Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed the keenness of the university administration to provide an opportunity to exchange visions and experiences between experts, specialists, and young doctors, and keep abreast of everything new in various medical specialties, praising the keenness of professors, researchers, and students to participate in scientific conferences that present abstracts of Science and experience, which is a field for learning and exchanging experiences, pointing to the successes achieved by the Urology Hospital in upgrading and developing the educational, research and medical process.
Dr. Mohamed Shalaby thanked the university administration for its keenness to provide all the possibilities to support the department and develop the health services provided by the University Urology and venereal hospital to the citizens of Upper Egypt, pointing to the leadership of the department since its establishment, globally, in many branches of specialization, including the use of laser in the fragmentation of urinary stones, calling for continuing development and keeping abreast of the developments of the specialty, in which robotic surgery has become playing a major role in the whole world.
Dr. Yasser Abdel Salam explained that the activities of the conference will continue from 25 until 28 this December, where the activities of the first day will be held at the University Urology and Reproductive Hospital in Assiut, and include (8) surgeries in the branches of micro-urology, which are transmitted live to watch the conference attendance of young doctors and researchers, including partial removal of a kidney tumor with surgical laparoscopy, laparoscopic kidney stone, extraction of a kidney stone with a surgical laparoscope while the patient is lying on his back.
Dr. Medhat al-Hawari added that the conference will discuss urological oncology, urological stones, urological diseases in children, kidney transplantation, complementary surgeries, Andrology and infertility, and modern urological endoscopes.
It is worth mentioning that the opening ceremony witnessed honoring the name of the late Dr. Mohammed Abdul Basir, professor of urology at the department, and handing over the conference shield to his sons, in appreciation of all that he gave to the department during his long career.
