Dr
Ayman Khairy, Deputy Director of the
University Hospitals for Quality Assurance and
Accreditation, announced the commencement of the
project of treating cases of coronary artery
clots. This project has become effective in
Assiut university
hospitals after a long period of
preparation and coordination with
Leiden University Hospital, Netherland.
Dr Khairy explained
that the project aims at prompt
medical action to rescue cases of full blockage in the
coronary artery; a risk that
threatens the life of the patient
and causes
death within 90 minutes.
The project relies on the usage of a new technical
device which sucks the clot
by inserting a catheter and a smart
stent to re-open the
artery and henceforth prevent future
recurrence of clots. The entire process takes only an
hour.
