Assiut University Announces the Success of the First Thermal Solar-Based Conditioning System for Buildings

Dr. Mohammed Abul-Qasem, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University, announced the success of the first solar-based conditioning system; a project that can be applied on new residential areas. The project was carried out by the university in collaboration with Fraunhofer Institute, and funded by the Egyptian Science & Technology Development Fund together with the German Ministry of Scientific Research.          Dr. Ahmed Hamza, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and project manager indicated that this project took three years and it was one of the experimental projects which may be implemented in new residential areas along the desert extension and hot areas in the republic. He also added that this is the first system of its kind which can be operated in the same efficiency as it offers thermal adjustments both in summer and winter times for 80 sq. m. on the top floor at one thermal lab in the faculty of Engineering. In addition to heating and cooling, the system is efficient for heating water throughout the year. Noteworthy too, due to the success of the experiment and its significant impact on environment preservation, a delegation of clean energy and the United Nations Bureau for industrial development in Cairo decided to visit the university last year to check the system for the purpose of building larger models and consider a wider application all over the republic.
