- During 2024, Assiut University Hospitals witnessed many achievements that reflected the great efforts of all those in charge of it; to make the targeted development in infrastructure, conduct continuous expansions, ensure the sustainability of quality within its facilities and medical sectors, and support the human element, by the comprehensive strategic plan adopted by the state to support and develop university hospitals and improve the level of service provided to citizens.
- Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, stressed the importance of the great role played by the Integrated Medical City at Assiut University, which has made a great leap in providing continuous, high-quality, and efficient medical services in Upper Egypt. These services varied between diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical operations at the hands of a group of the best-qualified doctors, nurses, and administrators.
- Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy received a report submitted by Dr. Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, highlighting the most prominent development works, openings, scientific and medical additions that university hospitals witnessed during 2024, which contributed to maximizing their important role in providing the best possible health care to all patients visiting them, and performing their humanitarian mission to the fullest extent.
- The most prominent achievements of Assiut University in the Medical sector is the inauguration of the trauma unit at the new Trauma and Emergency Hospital, which includes the reception of trauma emergencies on the ground floor: (20) examination beds, (15) cardiopulmonary resuscitation beds, and an emergency operating room for minor cases, in addition to the operation of (2) regular radiology machines to serve the trauma reception, and an ultrasound diagnostic unit as part of the diagnostic radiology services for trauma patients.
- The report emphasized: that Assiut University Hospitals are keen on sustaining quality and accreditation for all its medical facilities and sectors, in line with the latest international standards, to reach health leadership in various aspects and improve the level of services provided to citizens.
- In this regard, three of the university's medical sectors have been accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the Clinical Pathology Laboratories, the Blood Bank at the main hospital, and the Women's Health Hospital, making them the first laboratories in Egyptian public and private universities to obtain this accreditation, which reflects the confidence of the international medical community in the efficiency of the laboratories at Assiut University hospitals and the reliability of their results.
- In a related context, the liver transplant program at Al-Rajhi University Hospital received a renewal of its license from the Higher Committee for Organ Transplantation, affiliated with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, for three years; by the committee's approved conditions in this field, as this is the fifth license for Al-Rajhi Hospital; in light of its outstanding success in the field of liver transplantation, and its ability - so far - to perform 110 liver transplants; with success rates exceeding 85%, like its international counterparts. To date, 110 liver transplants have been performed, with success rates exceeding 85%, which in turn contributes to giving hope to many patients suffering from late-stage liver diseases, both in Upper Egypt and those from various Arab countries.
- The report recorded another achievement added to the medical sector at Assiut University, which is the success of the kidney transplant unit at the University Urology and Nephrology Hospital in reaching the “platinum number” in the number of kidney transplant cases performed, namely (75) cases, by an integrated medical team, from the distinguished sons of the hospital, who were optimally trained in cooperation with Martin Luther University in Germany, which opened the door of hope to save many patients with kidney failure in the Upper Egyptian governorates.
- As an extension of the expanded plan witnessed by Assiut University hospitals, the university was keen during 2024 to follow up the ongoing work on the new university oncology hospital project and to constantly review the latest developments in the construction and implementation of the project, as the new university oncology hospital is an important national project, designed according to the latest advanced medical systems, on an area of (15) thousand square meters, and will be implemented in three gradual stages, and includes all medical and therapeutic services necessary for oncology patients, nursing units, diagnostic and therapeutic departments, and all auxiliary services.
- In a new addition in line with the boom in the medical sector at Assiut University in 2024, the report indicated that the University Heart Hospital has started using a 3D cardiac scanning device (Carto), where the device is being used to provide a new service to treat patients with atrial fibrillation with the cautery technique, and the first operations of this type were completely successful, by the cardiac electrophysiology team at the Department of Cardiology at Assiut University.
- Within the framework of the joint initiative between Kuwait Finance House, in cooperation with Wafaa for Egypt and Misr El-Khair Foundation, Assiut University Hospitals received several medical devices provided by Wafaa for Egypt, worth more than EGP 6 million, which included (2) cardiac ultrasound machines, (3) refrigerators for blood preservation; for the University Children's Hospital, and (1) Ki device for oncology treatment; for the main university hospital, these medical devices are the first of their kind in Upper Egypt, based on artificial intelligence techniques and the latest capabilities based on advanced technology in diagnostics and treatment.
- The report revealed a set of unique and accurate services provided by the Advanced Fetal Care Unit at the University Women's Health Hospital, most notably the service of receiving cases that require surgical intervention for interventional fetal therapy to ensure the health and safety of the fetus, and the early detection of congenital defects in fetuses, and these services contribute to the treatment of intrauterine fetal cysts, lung cysts, as well as fetal blood analysis, and recently, the unit was able to add blood transfusion service for fetuses in utero. - The report continued; Within the framework of Assiut University's keenness to expand new specializations in all branches of education, and to add precise interdisciplinary specializations; the University Women's Health Hospital has launched two new diplomas; for the first time this year 2024/2025, namely: The “Assisted Fertilization” diploma and the “Gynecological Endoscopy” diploma, which are intended for doctors who hold a master's degree or fellowship in obstetrics and gynecology, or its equivalent, and are studied during a full academic year, through international curricula that keep pace with the latest developments in the fields of obstetrics and gynecology.
- According to the report, Assiut University is keen to achieve effective integration with various state institutions to serve the public health of the community, implement the state's plans and strategies aimed at increasing the recovery rates of patients and providing excellent quality care for citizens.
- In this regard, Assiut University Hospitals signed a joint cooperation protocol with the Arab African International Bank, effective 12/15/2024, for five years, which aims to develop the infrastructure of university hospitals and raise their efficiency by providing the necessary support to the university and the Faculty of Medicine to take care of this vital sector in recognition of its contributions in providing the best health services to all patients who visit them, as well as supporting comprehensive medical convoys to advance the health system in Upper Egypt.
- Assiut University Hospitals also signed a cooperation protocol with Assiut Ahliya University, which stipulates that health insurance services will be provided to Ahliya University students on January 1, 2025, including reception and emergency care, signing medical examinations at Assiut University Hospitals clinics, conducting medical analyzes and radiology, booking in internal departments, and urgent and emergency surgeries.
- The report monitored a series of successes and uniqueness recorded by the distinguished medical teams of Assiut University Hospitals in various specialties, and their leadership in performing many accurate and rare surgeries with high efficiency and accuracy, which confirms their vital role in providing medical service at a high level of professionalism and skill, and using the latest methods, diagnostic and therapeutic techniques to provide the best possible health care.

The inauguration of the Distinguished Accommodation House, at a construction cost of more than EGP 5 million, was equipped to serve doctors from Assiut University and other universities nationwide, as well as foreign doctors from outside Egypt, with a capacity of 23 double rooms.
The inauguration of the major conference hall at the Neuropsychiatric and Neurosurgery Hospital, which was built in a modern style and equipped with (3) modern interactive screens at the highest level.
The specialized clinic for patients with immune pemphigus, affiliated with the Department of Dermatology, at the main university hospital, aims to provide the necessary services for patients with immune pemphigus in terms of early diagnosis and prescribing the correct and appropriate treatment for the patient's condition.
Psychological support clinic for oncology patients at the Neuropsychiatric and Neurosurgery Hospital (Muscle Stiffness Clinic); to provide all aspects of support, psychological and therapeutic care for oncology patients, and exchange experiences among patients to help them overcome the experience of the disease.
The Critical Care Medicine Unit at the Department of Internal Medicine at the Main University Hospital, after the replacement and renovation process, and raising its clinical capacity from 16 to 24 beds, to provide high-quality medical services to critical care patients.
The opening of family medicine clinics, affiliated to the clinics building at the main university hospital, which provides a comprehensive service in various medical specialties for all age groups, as well as dealing with various diseases, in terms of prevention, treatment, and follow-up of patients.
Two important units of the Department of Clinical Pathology were inaugurated, namely: The Bone Marrow Sampling Room of the Department's Hematology Laboratory, in which bone marrow is examined to diagnose a number of diseases, and the Blood Bank Treatment Unit at Orman University Hospital, which provides high-quality specialized services to all university hospital patients.
Opening the health insurance pharmacy for pediatric oncology patients at the South Egypt Oncology Institute to provide safe and effective pharmaceutical care for sick children, and to facilitate their families in dispensing complementary treatment, immediately after the completion of the examination procedures.
