Dr. Tarek El-Gamal, President of Assiut University, congratulated the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for obtaining accreditation of the faculty’s central laboratory from the National Accreditation Council (EGAC), during his meeting with Dr. Madiha Darwish, Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Nasser, professor at the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology and Director of the Project Management Unit, and Dr. Zakaria Mokhtar. Zaki, professor at the Department of Forensic Medicine and Veterinary Toxicology and Director of the Central Laboratory.
The director of the lab explained that the lab includes a biochemical analysis unit to analyze blood and urine samples and help diagnose some diseases. The chemical analysis unit analyzes food to judge the level of chemical contamination of foods of animal origin to determine their content of protein and various nutrients to control nutritional ratios in addition to water analysis, which includes analyzing drinking water samples in farms and judging their suitability and levels of chemical pollution, and environmental analyses to determine levels of contamination with heavy metals as well as pesticides, radiation and other toxins in the various elements of the environment (soil, water, air) besides the existence of a scientific consultation unit that helps diagnose diseases by providing advice and technical support to the sectors of the local community as well as providing studies on the environmental dimension of the projects. The training unit also organizes workshops, courses, seminars and training lectures for students, researchers and technicians in the college.
