Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy declared that the university is keen to support the medical and therapeutic services provided to patients, in general, and to more than 50,000 annual oncology patients from different age groups who attend the Southern Egypt Cancer Institute, in specific. He stated that the institute is doing its best to overcome all obstacles facing oncology patients. Moreover, he praised the continuous cooperation of the staff members to raise the level of medical services provided to patients from various Upper Egypt governorates.
This declaration was during Dr. El-Minshawy’s visit to the bone-marrow-transplantation unit at the South Egypt Cancer Institute. Dr. El-Minshawy was accompanied by Dr. Maha Ghanem, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Ahmed Abdel Mawla, Acting Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Farouk Abdel Qawi, Advisor to the University President for Agricultural and Environmental Affairs; Dr. Muhammad Abul-Majd, Vice Dean of the Institute for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Khaled Fares, Vice Dean of the Institute for Graduate Studies and Research; Mr. Shawkat Saber, Secretary General of the University; Dr. Hosni Badrawi, Head of the Clinical Pathology Department at the Cancer Institute; Mr. Muhammad Abdel Salam, Director of Administrative Affairs at the Oncology Hospital; and a group of nurses.
During the tour, the president examined the bone-marrow-transplantation unit, which is the largest of its kind in Upper Egypt. It consists of five well-equipped transplantation cabins, and two care rooms accommodating four patients. The president also inspected the central monitoring unit and control rooms. Moreover, he announced that the institute, after six-month stoppage (mean time to repair), is preparing three cases for bone-marrow transplantation. Dr. El-Minshawy also praised the medical staff, trained locally and internationally, who are exerting tireless efforts to develop the level of service provided to patients
