Meeting with the Ambassador of Paraguay in Cairo: Gaeis Discusses An Agreement to Cultivate Egyptian Cotton in Paraguay

Prof. Ahmed A. Gaeis, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research met HE Mr. Rodriguez Gara, Ambassador of Paraguay in Cairo together with HE Dr. Yahya Kishq,  Governor of Assiut,  Dr. Al-Sayed Shalaby, and Dr. Mohamed Tharwat, from the Faculty of Agriculture, to discuss means  of cooperation and scientific and cultural and economic cooperation between the two countries. Dr. Gaeis said that the Ambassador assured that the people of Paraguay respect and highly esteem the civilization and ancient history of Egypt, and similarly recognize Assiut University and its leading role in serving the community. He added that the meeting included discussions of possible means of cooperation between Assiut University and the State of Paraguay. On his part, the ambassador encouraged the idea of establishing a Centre for Spanish Language, as the university has got a number of centres for other languages, considering that Spanish is the first language in many foreign countries. Likewise, the Ambassador encouraged the establishment of a department for Spanish Language and Literature at the Faculty of Arts. Also, HE called for an agreement with the Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University and surveyed the problems confronting his country particularly in Cotton cultivation. Therefore, HE assured his desire to be assisted by a number of professors from the Faculty of Agriculture to benefit from their experience and scientific research to provide possible solutions to produce high quality cotton by using advanced technology, labor force, and soil in Paraguay, with an aim to produce Egyptian Quality Cotton on Paraguayan land.  Finally, HE assured that this will be an initial step to be followed by several other crops in the future. At the end of the meeting, Prof. Gaeis handed the Ambassador the University's Memorial Plaque.
