Rasha Hassan Makram-Alla Abdel-Hameed, a researcher at the Department of
Psychology, Faculty of Arts, Assiut University has conducted a psychological
study on “Domestic Violence: Demographic Variables and Personality Traits in
Assiut Governorate.” The researcher attempted to diagnose domestic violence in
the light of some demographic variables such as: age - economic level -
residence area - level of education, together with some personality traits.
The researcher used a number of hypotheses in the study and attempted to prove
their validity. As hypothesized, residence place (rural - urban), level of
education (low - medium - high) would be of remarkable influence on domestic
violence. Besides, personality traits of children whose parents are more violent
are different from the personality traits of children of less violent parents.
The study results reveal that there is a remarkable influence of interaction
between the variables of residence and level of education on the variable of
domestic violence among parents. It also showed that parents of urban origin
were more violent than parents of rural origin. Likewise, parents of higher
level of education were less violent than parents of lower level of education.
The researcher used Eisenk Personality Test and Personal Assessment
Questionnaire for Adults and Youngsters.
A Psychological Study on Violence in Assiut Governorate Confirm: Parents of Urban Origin Are more Violent Than Parents of Rural Origin
