Tarek El-Gamal, President of Assiut University, confirmed that the university harnesses all its scientific and human capabilities to contribute to the development and advancement of various sectors, praising the student projects and innovations that are implemented at the university through the Unit of Innovative Projects and Student Creativity and other units and centers of the university that sponsor talented students, which reflect the level of effort expended in educating and training students to master various skills, noting that all the projects produced by the brilliant university students carry creative thinking and advanced activity for students, who form the basis for the industrial renaissance and comprehensive development that the state seeks.

This came in response to the report submitted to him by Dr. Shehata Ghareeb, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, about the innovation of a student team from the faculties of  Medicine and Engineering at the university who designed an inexpensive respirator (lower in cost than imported from abroad), easy to manufacture, assembly and maintenance using local capabilities available throughout the Arab Republic of Egypt, such as 3D printers and CNC machines, to fill the shortage of ventilators in hospitals.
