Prof.El-Minshawy: Assiut University is keen on the optimal use of available resources, spreading the culture of recycling and developing the spirit of participation among students
Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, praised the activity of the maintenance unit in the university cities, in the field of recycling, where the Departments of carpentry, blacksmithing, paints, and upholstery, in the maintenance unit, exploited large quantities of damaged wood resulting from the renovation of furniture in the building (1), and building (E), in the student city, and re-manufactured these woods to produce living rooms (interiors and corners), paint them, and put them in the halls of these buildings, and they will be upholstered to benefit female students residing in the city, where two pillars in the building (1), and the implementation of (4) other pillars in the building (E) is being completed.
Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed the keenness of the university administration to find sustainable solutions to preserve the surrounding environment, pointing out the importance of recycling in conserving available resources and exploiting them in the optimal way, reducing their waste, reducing economic costs, and reducing the consumption of raw materials.
The maintenance unit at the university cities, under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Abdul Mawla, vice president for education and Student Affairs, and Mr. Mahmoud Antar, director general of the university cities administration, recycled furniture, converted it into new and modern furniture pieces, painted old car tires, and upholstered them to be comfortable seats for students, wheels were installed for easy movement, in addition to using tires to make tables and artwork to decorate walls.
For his side, Prof. Ahmed Abdul Mawla stressed that waste recycling supports the concept of Environmental Conservation and the optimal use of available resources among students, and encourages them to adopt new ideas for furniture recycling.
Mr. Mahmoud Antar, director general of the university cities administration, added that the building (L) in the female students ' City was converted to a corner and upholstered, and the iron sheets were also used in the manufacture of holders for some ornamental pots, and paint seedlings were used in the cultivation of ornamental plants.
