Non Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is the second most common cancer in adults in Egypt, primary extra nodal lymphoma PENL represent 25-40% of NHL .the study aims to assess histopathological & epidemiological aspects PENL.Forty-six patients of histological proved pENL treated during the period (2008- 2013) in Assuit University Hospital Oncology department, data were collected and analyzed. Results: median age the patients was 50 years, 30% had B-symptoms and 33% had elevated LDH. gastrointestinal lymphomas (GIL) was the most common site in 37 % of pENL, followed by Head and neck lymphomas, skin, bone and CNS in 30, 20, 9, 4% respectively. pENL had B immunophenotype in 85% whereas only 15% of patients had T cell immunophenotype. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, (DLBCL) was the most common histological type observed in 48 %, followed by marginal zone lymphoma of MALT IN 22%. stage I, II, III was 9, 56, 35% respectively, 76% of patients received chemotherapy with CHOP regimen,. Response to treatment was evaluated in 41 patients, the main response was complete remission in 56%, followed by 44% was partial response.
Conclusion: PGIL was the most common pENL followed by H&N. DLBCL is the most common pathology followed by MALT and the high response in absence of Rituximab may be due to early stages in our study (65%) ,low and low intermediate IPI in 88% of patients.
