The Department of Pharmacognosy is one of the basic and unique departments of the Faculty of Pharmacy, since all its courses aim to introduce the students to pharmacognosy to obtain a nutritional and medicinal sources from natural products (plant, animal or minerals)

Preparing our graduates with the knowledge, skills, and practical abilities that make them able to face the challenges of work and public through:

1. Teaching the basics of pharmacognosy, including the identification of medicinal plants, chemical active constituents, methods of extraction, identification of their structure, studying their analytical methods and their effect in treating diseases.
2. Teaching herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, and quality control of herbal medicines using modern chromatographic and spectral methods to standardize these medicines and ensure their quality as pharmaceutical products.
3. Clarifying the direction and field of herbal medicine through continuous and renewable research and treatment of endemic diseases
4. Developing the pharmacy service by providing safe and effective natural medicines
5. An advisory center for the manufacture of medicinal plants and natural products
