Dr. Tariq Al-Jamal, President of Assiut University, inaugurated the Center for Sustainable Development at the University in the presence of Dr. Maha Ghanem, Vice President of Assiut University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the Center, Dr. Ahmed Al-Manshawy, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Abdul Salam Noir, Head of the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Commerce and Director of the Center, in addition to a group of deans of the College and members of the Board of Directors of the Center, whose membership includes Dr. Dweib Hussein, Vice President of the Faculty of Law, Legal Advisor, and Dr. Ahmed Al-Shaheer Accounting Department at the Faculty of Commerce, Financial Advisor, Dr. Mohamed Helmy Al-Hafnawi, Vice Dean of the College of Fine Arts, Engineering Consultant, and with the membership of Dr. Wajdi Nakhleh, Dean of the Faculty of Quality Education, Dr. Abdel Hamid Abu Sahli, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Tayseer Abdel Hamid, Dean of the College of Computers and Information, Dr. Magdy Alwan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Saudi Mohammed, Dean of the Faculty of Social Work, and Mr. Secretary General of the University, along with the members of the Center from abroad, namely Ambassador Mohamed El-Orabi, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Gamal El-Din Rashid, Director of the Farouk El-Baz Center for Sustainability and Future Studies at the British University in Egypt, and Dr. Khaled Hassouna, Executive Director of the Center for Research and Sustainable Development at Virginia Tech University. In America, Dr. Essam Shaaban is the President of the Center of Excellence for Water at the American University in Cairo..
Dr. Maha Ghanem stated that the opening of the center comes out of the university's leading role in serving the community and developing the environment and its keenness to achieve the goals of sustainable development in accordance with Egypt's Vision 2030 in various sectors inside and outside the university, harnessing all its distinguished human and scientific potential in order to contribute to advancing development and achieving progress and prosperity throughout the country.
Dr. Abdul Salam Noir explained that the center aims to support the conduct of studies and research and the launch of initiatives aimed at achieving the pillars of sustainable development, as well as participating in local or international projects related to various areas of development.
