Under the patronage of Dr. Tarek El-Gamal, President of Assiut University, the German Language Center was inaugurated after the development and renovation work at the Language Center at the Faculty of Arts in the presence of Dr. Shehata Gharib, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Maha Ghanem, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Dina Mamdouh, Dean of the Faculty of Sugar Technology and Director of the German Language Center at the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Magdy Alwan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, the Vice-Deans of the College, Professor Shawkat Saber, Secretary General of the University and a selection of Faculty members of the college and members of the board of directors of the center.
During the opening, Dr. Dina Mamdouh, Director of the Center, reviewed the most important activities and achievements of the Center, which included several classrooms, language laboratories and a library that includes a large number of dictionaries and audio tapes, and during the meeting, Dr. Magdy Alwan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, pointed out the possibility of using the Department of Documents and Libraries to contribute to the cataloguing and classification of the library continuously in line with the internationally approved indexing systems, Dr. Dina also pointed out that the Center was established in 1983 and was the first center at the level of Upper Egypt and was founded by Dr. Youssef Shaheen had a faculty from the Goethe-Institut and the German Agency for Scientific and Cultural Exchange (DAAD), adding that the most important objectives of the development of the center is to provide distinguished language courses through re-cooperation with the German Agency for Scientific Exchange DAAD and Goethe, adding that the center offers 4 levels of courses each level 40 hours and the student receives an international certificate provided by the Goethe-Institut, which is the only body that provides internationally accredited certificates in the German language.
In his speech, Dr. Tariq Al-Jamal expressed his happiness with what is now witnessing the German Language Center, which is led by a new administration that has succeeded in restoring the status of the center and doubling the demand for study in it after its renewal in line with scientific and technological development.
He expanded the scope of his services, directing his invitation to the academic and administrative leaders of the university to discover the distinguished human elements and prepare a distinguished second grade.
