Prof. Mustafa El Sharqawy, Dean of the South Egypt Cancer Institute, Assiut
University, announced the success of the first marrow transplant operation. The
operation managed in saving the life of the 39 years old Abdul Hadi Mohammed
Amir, who was suffering from a setback Non Hodgkin's lymphoma after a period of
treatment. Prof. Sharqawy asserted the importance of this step considering it a
significant medical achievement as it is only the second operation nationwide to
be done out of Cairo. This operation was financially sponsored by the university
and other donations. Furthermore, the Unit will be expected to do about 50
operations annually.
