Dr. Al-Minshawy reviews the performance report of Assiut University Children’s Hospital, which received more than (66,620) cases during the year 2024.

The University Children’s Hospital provides comprehensive medical services through 21 outpatient clinics across various medical specialties.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, reviewed a report submitted by Dr. Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board of Directors, regarding the activities and achievements of Assiut University Children’s Hospital in 2024. The report aligns with ongoing follow-up efforts and emphasizes the hospital’s commitment to ensure the provision of treatment services to patients and care for emergency cases under the supervision of Dr. Yasser Farouk, Director General of the pediatric university hospital.
The report highlighted the hospital’s accomplishments, including the reception of 66,620 cases. All patients were examined, treated, and provided with various specialized medical services and diagnostic procedures through 21 outpatient clinics. These clinics include general pediatrics, hematology, neurology, nephrology, pulmonology, pediatric surgery, neonatology, endocrinology, plastic surgery, rheumatology, orthopedics, nutrition, genetics, hepatology, gastroenterology, echocardiography, tuberculosis, immunizations (well-child care), medical fitness, neurosurgery, and ultrasound diagnostics.
The report clarified the number of patients and admissions in Emergency and Reception Unit, where (12,736) cases were received and treated.
The report pointed out that University Children’s Hospital conducted a large number of surgeries for children, including (2,743) surgical operations, of which (1,379) were major surgeries, (450) emergency surgeries, in addition to (759) orthopedic surgeries, and (155) plastic surgeries.
The report highlighted the new openings at the hospital that contributed to the development of the medical and therapeutic services provided to patients and enhanced the community role, accommodating the increase in the number of patients seeking treatment. This included the opening of a Private Treatment Unit on the fifth floor, which consists of (15) rooms, as well as the opening of an Outpatient Ultrasound Unit for Nerves and Muscles, the development of the Scientific Center in the pediatric department, and the upgrading of two rooms in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The report mentioned that the hospital's units and departments were equipped with a large number of medical devices, including: a joint ultrasound device, an ultrasound device in the radiology unit, (4) ventilators in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, an anesthetic device in the Thoracic Endoscopy Unit, and several ECG devices for the intensive care, endocrine, and nephrology units, along with surgical instruments for pediatric surgery.
Additionally, the hospital received several medical devices donated by the “Wafaa for Egypt”, including an ultrasound machine for the Radiology Unit, an echocardiography device for the Cardiology Clinic, and three refrigerators for plasma and blood storage.
The hospital had refurbished the furniture in its Neonatal Unit, initiated upgrades to the water treatment station in the Nephrology Unit, and constructed a special pathway in the outpatient clinic for children with mobility challenges who need to use wheelchairs. Furthermore, several hospital vehicles were refurbished and upgraded.
The report concluded by highlighting several scientific activities and events organized by the hospital’s units. These included: a nutrition unit conference, a hematology unit conference, and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit held a workshop on best practices for managing critical cases.
In addition, a scientific day was held for the: Gastroenterology and Liver Unit in the Pediatric department, Neonatal Care Unit (premature infants), Emergency and Reception Unit in the department, and both the Intensive and Intermediate Care Units.
