Yes, Yes. Assiut University actively develops and supports programs and initiatives that promote responsible aquatic stewardship and the sustainable use of freshwater resources. As a major institution located along the River Nile, the university recognizes the importance of protecting aquatic ecosystems, ensuring water quality, and preserving biodiversity for both environmental sustainability and community well-being.

Through its Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Science, and the Center for Environmental Studies, the university implements a wide range of activities aimed at safeguarding aquatic environments. These include:

  • Awareness and training programs for students and local communities on the impacts of pollution, overfishing in inland waters, and unsustainable water use.
  • Research projects focusing on water quality monitoring, fish health, freshwater biodiversity, and the ecological impacts of agricultural runoff.
  • Community outreach initiatives, especially in rural areas, to promote responsible fishing practices in irrigation canals, natural freshwater bodies, and the River Nile.
  • Collaborations with governmental agencies such as the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation to support sustainable freshwater management policies.
  • Student-led environmental campaigns addressing issues such as plastic pollution, improper waste disposal, and threats to river ecosystems.

By integrating academic expertise, research, and community engagement, Assiut University demonstrates a strong commitment to enhancing stewardship of freshwater environments and supporting sustainable practices that protect Egypt’s vital aquatic resources.
