About the Department

The Mechanical Power Engineering Department is an academic department of the Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University. Its activities include thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, hydraulic machinery, power generation, refrigeration and air conditioning, energy systems, and renewable energy. The Department works to prepare engineers capable of analysing, designing, operating and improving mechanical systems, and to advance applied research that serves industry and society.

History and Development

 The roots of the Mechanical Power Engineering Department trace back to the original Mechanical Engineering Department, one of the four founding academic departments of the Faculty of Engineering at Assiut University in 1957, when the University was established as the first in Upper Egypt. Teaching at the Faculty began in the 1957/1958 academic year. The discipline has since continued to evolve in mechanical engineering and energy, in step with technological progress and the needs of industry and society.
