Headed by Dr. Mustafa Hashem, Professor of Interventional Radiology, Faculty of
Medicine, Assiut University, a medical team has successfully done a minute brain
surgery done at the University Hospital to 63-year-old woman from Minya. The
patient was suffering from a bleeding arterial fistula in the brain which forms
a risk to the patient's life.
Dr. Hashim stated that this surgery is considered a new accomplishment in the
treatment of bleeding problems in brain arteries. He also indicated that the
team relied on using a new technique applying Squid substance to close the
fistula; a process which is the latest developed devise which also requires the
highest skill during the surgery. In addition to this, he notified that this
type of surgeries has been done in Cairo University by a joint medical team of
Egyptians and foreigners, but this time, it is performed by an entirely Egyptian
team from radiology, anesthesiology, and intensive care departments at Assiut
University Hospital.
