Under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, the Center for monitoring and studying community problems affiliated to the community service and Environmental Development Affairs Sector organized an awareness seminar entitled "online betting and gambling and their risks to social security", in partnership with Sphinx University of New Assiut, in cooperation with Al-Azhar University, Assiut branch, Assiut international Technological University, Assiut new Technological University and Badr private university, Assiut branch.
The seminar came under the supervision of Dr. Mansour Kabash, president of Sphinx private university, Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Alim, vice president of Assiut University for community service and Environmental Development, Dr. Ali Kamal Temple, director of the Center for monitoring and studying community problems, and Dr. Asma Jaber Mehran, deputy director of the center.
During his speech, Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed the importance of addressing societal issues, stressing that online betting and gambling represent one of the dangerous phenomena that targets multiple groups, especially young people, because of their negative effects that threaten values, morals and psychological and social stability. He also called for concerted efforts among educational, religious and security institutions to raise awareness of society and enact the necessary legislation to confront this phenomenon, in order to achieve the goals of comprehensive and sustainable development.
For his side, Prof. Dr. Mansour Kabbash pointed out that online betting and gambling are one of the fastest spreading phenomena, luring young people with illusions of quick profit, despite the serious risks they carry that threaten community security and deviate from religious teachings and established cultural values.
Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Alim explained that the seminar came with the aim of raising awareness of the dangers of electronic betting, and reviewed practical models of these practices, in addition to providing tips and guidance on how to reduce their spread, stressing the University's commitment to its role in supporting activities that contribute to raising students ' awareness and immunizing them against digital risks.
Dr. Ali Kamal temple thanked the university administration for its continuous support to the cultural and intellectual awareness efforts of students.
During the seminar, engineer Ayman Ayad, director of the Information Technology Institute (ITI) at Assiut University, presented a lecture entitled "The risks of online betting and gambling", followed by a dialogue session on the negative societal effects of this phenomenon moderated by Dr. Husseini Hammad, coordinator of community participation and Human Rights at Al-Azhar University branch in Assiut.
Dr. Asma Jaber Mehran also reviewed the recommendations issued by the seminar, which included the importance of launching comprehensive community awareness campaigns, activating deterrent laws, establishing a competent authority to monitor digital gambling activities, in addition to encouraging technology companies to develop solutions to limit access to these sites, establishing programs for psychological and social support for those affected, as well as activating the role of the family in monitoring and follow-up.
The seminar was attended by Dr. Mahmoud Shiha, vice-president of Sphinx University, Dr. Husseini Hammad, engineer Ayman Ayad, Professor Mahmoud Bakhit, secretary general of Sphinx University, along with a number of deans and vice-deans of Colleges, faculty members, auxiliary bodies, and a crowd of students from participating universities.
