Dr. El-Minshawy Announces that the Stroke Unit Has Earned International Accreditation as an Advanced Stroke Unit by the World Stroke Organization

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, announced that the Stroke Unit at the University Hospital for Neurology, Psychiatry, and Neurosurgery has received international accreditation as an Advanced Stroke Unit from the World Stroke Organization (WSO). This recognition reflects the unit’s excellence in delivering healthcare that meets the highest international standards in the field of neurology and stroke care.
This achievement comes under the supervision of a distinguished group of medical leaders, including: Dr. Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Rahman, Professor of Neurology, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Education and Student Affairs and Head of the Stroke Unit, Dr. Khaled El-Beih, Head of the Department of Neuropsychiatry, Dr. Tarek Rajeh, Head of the Neuropsychiatry Unit at the University Neuropsychiatry Hospital and Dr. Mohamed Abdel Basset, Director of the Neuropsychiatry Hospital.
Dr. El-Minshawy extended his sincere congratulations to all the medical, nursing, administrative, and technical staff of the unit, praising their outstanding efforts which led to this significant achievement. He emphasized that the accreditation reflects the university’s commitment to the ongoing development and upgrading of its laboratories and specialized units, in line with its strategic vision to enhance medical, educational, and research services.
The President of Assiut University affirmed that this accomplishment adds to the growing list of achievements in the university’s medical sector and marks a turning point in supporting and advancing specialized healthcare services. He noted that it also demonstrates the university’s dedication to implementing comprehensive quality programs and strengthening partnerships with leading international health organizations.
Dr. El-Minshawy also highlighted the critical nature of stroke units, which require special attention in terms of staffing and equipment. The university, he said, places great importance on ensuring rapid response and effective treatment for emergency cases, contributing to improved recovery rates. He stressed that the Faculty of Medicine pays great attention to enhancing quality programs, qualification and continuous training of staff, and providing a clinical and scientific environment that meets international standards.
Dr. Mohamed Abdel Rahman, Professor of Neurology, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Education and Student Affairs, and Head of the Stroke Unit, said that obtaining this accreditation is the result of the hard work of the entire unit team, and their commitment to applying the latest international protocols in the diagnosis and treatment of strokes. He pointed out that the unit always seeks to provide medical service at the highest level, and develop its capabilities to keep pace with the rapid development in this specialty.
