Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, participated in the meeting of the Council of private universities, chaired by Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of higher education and scientific research, and in the presence of Dr. Maher Mesbah, Secretary of the council, members of the council, and a number of ministry leaders, at the ministry's headquarters in the new administrative capital.
Prof. El-Minshawy stated that the meeting discussed a number of important files related to the educational system, foremost of which are the conditions and controls of the mechanisms of providing scholarships to students enrolled in private universities, the efforts exerted by the state to develop universities and research institutions, and the development of work in the projects of establishing 10 new private universities are being completed.
Dr. Ayman Ashour praised the success and achievement achieved by private universities, pointing out that they have become a major supporter of the higher education system, as they have been able to gain the confidence of the community of students and parents in their educational abilities, and attracted a high acceptance rate of students, as the number of students enrolled in the current academic year reached more than 60 thousand students.
A statement issued by the Ministry of higher education and scientific research stated that Dr. Ayman Ashour confirmed that the plan to establish private universities came in fulfillment of the state's vision of maximizing the use of the capabilities and resources of educational institutions, and providing a distinguished educational service that contributes to enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian Higher Education, and to confirm Egypt's position as a leading educational destination in the region, pointing out that private universities have taken into account in their programs compatibility with the latest scientific specialties and study programs in the fields of Science, Technology and artificial intelligence, and the introduction of interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary programs, which led to an increase in the number of students in these vital specialties, which is of great importance for the future, and succeeded in attracting new generations to these specialties.
The minister referred to the meeting held with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, president of the Republic, and Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, prime minister, where the meeting dealt with the executive position of the construction works at the educational institutions affiliated to the ministry, in addition to the efforts exerted by the state to develop the objective and scientific aspects at universities and research institutions in Egypt.during the meeting, the president was briefed on the developments in the projects for the establishment of private universities at the level of the Republic, as the implementation of 10 new private universities is being completed, to begin studying with them starting from the next academic year ( 2025/2026), and the number of private universities has increased to 30 universities, within the framework of the state policy aimed at building and equipping the headquarters of Egyptian universities in accordance with international standards, stressing the president's praise for the achievements and progress of the private university system since its inception.
The minister stressed the keenness to ensure that the private universities that are being operated possess the academic success components of a distinguished infrastructure, construction and human capabilities, complete their administrative structures, review regulations, and analyze performance continuously to ensure the continued success of the system of private universities.
Dr. Adel Abdul Ghaffar, media advisor and official spokesman of the ministry, explained that the council discussed the amendment of the first article of the decision to form the committees specialized in nominating the heads of private universities that contributed to the establishment of public universities, the organization of their work, the procedures and conditions of candidacy, and the criteria of differentiation.
The council also decided to form a committee to set the conditions, controls and mechanisms for providing scholarships to students enrolled in private universities, in accordance with the Republican decisions on the establishment of those universities, and to follow the system in force in similar committees for allocating grants at universities.
