On World Blood Donor Day
Dr. El-Minshawy emphasizes Assiut University's keenness to consolidate the culture of blood donation and support humanitarian efforts in the health field.
Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, stressed that World Blood Donor Day, which is celebrated annually on June 14, is a global humanitarian event that carries a message of thanks and appreciation to all those who voluntarily give their blood to save the lives of others, and contributes to enhancing awareness of the importance of blood donation and its vital role in saving lives and meeting the permanent needs of health institutions.
World Blood Donation Day falls on June 14, the birthday of Austrian scientist Karl Landsteiner, the discoverer of the blood group system, who was born in 1868, in recognition of his pioneering scientific contributions that contributed to saving millions of lives around the world."
Dr. El-Minshawy pointed out that Assiut University regards this day as an important opportunity to promote a culture of blood donation both within the university community and beyond, and to foster a sense of social responsibility among its students and staff. He noted that the university has been regularly organizing blood donation campaigns in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, as part of its role in supporting the healthcare sector, especially during times of crisis and emergencies.
Dr. El-Minshawy explained that these campaigns are part of a comprehensive vision adopted by the university to instill values of social engagement and human solidarity, while also raising awareness among students and employees about the importance of donating blood as a profound act of human generosity. He affirmed that the university remains committed to supporting all health and community initiatives, stemming from its role as a scientific and humanitarian beacon in Upper Egypt.
Dr. El-Minshawy concluded by affirming that blood donation is not merely a means of saving a patient, but a renewed message of hope and a humanitarian act that embodies the highest meanings of giving. He called on everyone to actively participate in spreading this noble culture throughout society.
