Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy inaugurates the open Botanical Garden at Assiut University with 1864 trees and plants of diverse and rare species

- President of the University: the Botanical Garden represents a strategic project that combines educational and research goals and corresponds to the priorities of sustainable development

- The garden contributes to the documentation of plant data within the university campus and supports scientific research specialized in Plant Sciences

  Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, opened on Sunday morning, July 13, 2025, the open Botanical Garden inside the university campus, which is one of the most prominent environmental and scientific initiatives implemented by the university, as it aims to integrate educational and research aspects with environmental conservation and sustainable development.

  The park project was implemented under the supervision of: Dr. Mahmoud Abdul Alim, vice president of the University for community service and Environmental Development Affairs and chairman of the committee supervising the project, Dr. Abdul Hamid Abu Sahli, dean of the College of Science and vice chairman of the committee, and Dr. Essam Fadl Abu Zeid, vice dean of the College of Science for community service and Environmental Development Affairs and supervisor of the project.

  Dr. El-Minshawy stressed that the park represents a living Botanical library and a scientific reference for researchers, amateurs and students, and includes about 1864 trees and plants of diverse and rare species, including evergreen trees, palms, fruit trees, medicinal and ornamental plants, in addition to tropical species and huge swallows, which enhances the environmental and aesthetic value of the campus, and supports the University's vision to provide a healthy and sustainable educational environment.

During his tour of the Park, Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed that the park project represents an important step towards documenting the data of plants and trees within the university campus, and supporting specialized scientific research in the fields of Plant Sciences, pointing to its effective role in the conservation of endangered species. In line with the Sustainable Development Goals, and promotes the creation of a safe, healthy and sustainable university environment.

Dr. El-Minshawy added that the university is committed to continuing the development of infrastructure in various sectors to be more in line with environmental standards, through the expansion of green spaces, and community awareness of the importance of preserving them, because of their aesthetic value and positive effects on public health and the environment, which enhances the integration of environmental activities within the University's development strategy.

  The opening ceremony was attended by a number of deans, vice deans, faculty members and staff, as well as representatives of the private sector concerned with environmental affairs, students of Al-kid University and their supervisors.

Dr. Abdul Hamid Abu Sahli explained that the Botanical Garden represents an open knowledge and environmental space, provides a platform for practical education and field research, and also works to spread the culture of interest in plants and biodiversity to the university community.

Dr. Essam Fadl pointed out that the garden is equipped with identification signs for each plant, including the scientific name, variety, plant species, brief information about the benefits and geographical distribution, in addition to the QR Code that can be scanned via a smartphone to obtain detailed information from a specialized electronic page on the University's website.

The committee includes Dr. Abu Bakr Mohammed Al-Tayeb, vice dean of the College of Science for graduate studies and Research Affairs, Dr. Sayed Shehata Abdin, supervisor of the University's gardens administration, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Abdul Rahman, assistant professor at the Department of botany at the college, and Dr. Saeed Mustafa Mohammed, assistant professor at the college
Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, director of the Department of Public Affairs at the college, Ms. Shaza Ahmed Abu Abbas, head of the media unit at the college, Mr. Mustafa Hassan, head of the gardens and nurseries unit at the college, Ms. Doaa Mustafa, Occupational Safety and health officer at the college, Mr. Abdul Hamid Bayoumi Mohamed, administrative officer at the Office of the vice dean of the college, Mr. Omar Ahmed Abdel Aal, director of the Office of the vice dean of the college and Secretary of the committee.

  This project is an advanced step towards a green University that prioritizes the preservation of the environment and the use of its resources in the service of Science and society.
