Prof. El-Minshawy praises the medical team at the Children's University Hospital for his success in performing an esophageal transplant for a child

Assiut University announced the success of a medical team at the Children's University Hospital in performing an esophagal transplant for a one-year-old child, under the supervision of Prof . Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of the University, Dr. Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, Prof. Yasser Farouk, Director of the hospital, and Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ibrahim, Professor of Pediatric Surgery, and Head of the Department.

Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, congratulated the medical team on its success in performing this critical and dangerous surgical operation, praising the efficiency and excellence of the medical cadres in Assiut University hospitals from doctors and nurses, explaining that this success is a new addition to the record of successes of Assiut University hospitals.

The medical team explained that the case was represented by a baby born with a serious defect in the eye and trachea, and surgery was performed immediately after birth; to make a temporary feeding tube from the stomach, due to a lack of esophageal tissue, which caused a dam between the mouth and stomach, and the child was followed up until he reached the age of one year; so that the medical team then performs microsurgery for him to transplant the esophageal using the stomach; so that the child can use his mouth to drink and swallow, for the first time since he was born at the age of one year.

It is worth mentioning that the medical team, that successfully performed the surgery, came under the supervision of Dr. Mahmoud Mohammed Mustafa, and Dr. Mohammed Abdul Qader Othman, and included professors of pediatric surgery, namely: Dr. Ahmed Jamal Al-Shuwaimi, pediatric surgery lecturer, and doctor Ahmed Maher, assistant pediatric surgery lecturer , Dr. Hussein Ibrahim Farah, pediatric surgery lecturer, Prof. Ahmed Kamel, assistant lecturer of pediatric surgery, and Dr. Ahmed Ali, and Dr. Noureddine Ali, resident doctors. The children's care team also included: Dr. Azza Al-Tayeb, Dr. Nahla Sameh Abdul Al-Aleem, and Dr. Jihan Mohammed Jalalal. Among the anesthesia team: Dr. Hala Saad Abdul Ghaffar, Head of the Department of Anesthesia. The medical team thanked the nursing staff.
