1-Establishment of a fungal culture collection (bank) including fungi isolated from different sources and habitats in Egypt and other Arab countries. The culture collection (bank) comprises at present about 6000 isolates belonging to about 600 species and it is planned to be a national and regional culture collection (bank).

2-Arrangement of training courses and workshops to initiate and promote the capability of human resources in the fields of fungal biodiversity and taxonomy (thirteen workshops for researchers and many training courses for the university students have been accomplished in the last eleven years).

3-Identification services of fungi for researchers.

4-Conduction of research in biodiversity and taxonomy of fungi, and assistance in research dealing with other related fields e.g. Biotechnology, and Plant, Human and Animal Pathology.

5-Establishment of a herbarium containing dry fungal cultures and specimens of plant materials infected with fungi , in addition to permanent microscopic slides of these fungi to assist in the identification purposes and serve as a museum of fungi.

6-Establishment of a library comprising references in biodiversity and taxonomy of fungi

7-Exchange of fungal cultures with international mycological centres.

8-Provision of cultures for academic persons and institutes.

9-Issue of periodical publications providing illustrative descriptions, occurrence, and economic significance of common fungi in Egypt and other Arab countries.

10-Issue of periodical journal which publishes original papers in the various fields of basic and applied Mycology.
