The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Assiut University is one of the oldest faculties of veterinary medicine in Egypt, as it was established in 1961 by Presidential Decree No. 828, to be the first faculty of veterinary medicine in Upper Egypt, and the sixth among the faculties of Assiut University after the faculties of science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and pharmacy.

Since its establishment, the college has carried a pioneering scientific and societal mission, represented in the preparation of a scientifically and clinically qualified veterinarian, who possesses professional competence and the ability to compete locally, regionally and internationally, in addition to supporting scientific research and conducting applied studies in various fields of veterinary sciences, providing scientific and technical consultations and services to the authorities concerned with the development of livestock and fisheries, and strengthening the health control system on food, in a way that contributes to protecting public health and achieving food security.

The college is also keen to keep pace with scientific developments by organizing conferences, seminars and scientific agreements, supporting sustainable professional development programs for graduates, and actively participating in the fight against animal diseases and zoonotic diseases, as well as providing therapeutic and guidance services to breeders through veterinary convoys that tour various villages and hamlets in Assiut Governorate and Upper Egypt.

As part of its continuous pursuit of excellence, the college works to develop the capabilities of faculty members, assistant staff, and administrative staff, and provide an integrated learning environment for students by modernizing the stands, teaching halls, laboratories, and laboratories, providing the latest educational devices and technologies, in addition to supporting student activities that contribute to developing the student's personality and refining their scientific and leadership skills.

The college includes the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, which is one of the largest educational and therapeutic veterinary edifices in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and is located on an area of more than eight acres, to provide an integrated system of educational, research and therapeutic services. The hospital includes a automated poultry slaughterhouse and another for animals, a factory to train students in meat processing, in addition to specialized units in diagnostic radiology, fish farming, and internationally accredited laboratories equipped with the latest devices and technologies in the fields of diagnosis, treatment, and scientific research, in order to ensure Providing veterinary services according to the highest standards of quality and safety.

The hospital also includes departments specialized in surgery, obstetrics, animal medicine, and poultry diseases, which provide health care and therapeutic services for livestock, and perform various surgeries and advanced medical interventions, in addition to its pivotal role in teaching and training college and graduate students, and developing their clinical and practical skills, which contributes to the preparation of qualified veterinary cadres according to the latest academic and professional standards.

The college achieved a historic achievement by obtaining institutional accreditation from the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education as the first veterinary medical college in the Arab Republic of Egypt, on October 27, 2011, then it was re-accredited on June 25, 2018, and its journey culminated in the renewal of accreditation for the third time in a row on September 25, 2024, to continue accreditation until September 24, 2029, which reflects the college's continuous commitment to applying quality standards and academic excellence.

For more than six decades, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Assiut University has played a pivotal role in supporting veterinary education in Egypt, as it participated in the establishment of many faculties of veterinary medicine in various universities, and provided them with the best professors and scientists in various disciplines, and continues its pioneering mission in preparing scientific competencies, serving the community, and supporting sustainable development, in a way that strengthens its position as a leading scientific beacon in the field of veterinary sciences at the national and regional levels..
