Assiut University participates in the African Lung Cancer Conference (PACLC 2025) in Accra, Ghana .

Dr. El-Minshawy: Assiut University is strongly present in international conferences as part of its research role and encourages researchers to participate in fruitful scientific participation .

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, praised the participation of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, represented by Dr. Bishoy Allam, Assistant Lecturer in the Department, as an Egyptian representative in the African Lung Cancer Conference (PACLC 2025), organized by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), in Accra, Ghana, which confirms Assiut University's commitment to its pioneering role in supporting scientific research, developing mechanisms for diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, and promoting medical cooperation at the African and international levels.

The University President congratulated Dr. Bishoy Allam on his valuable and honorable participation in the conference, which aligns with the university’s vision of establishing a strong scientific base of researchers across diverse fields; and to motivate them to make contributions and fruitful scientific contributions regionally and internationally; that would raise the efficiency of the medical system, upgrade it, and provide high-quality and efficient services; to maintain the scientific and medical leadership of the university.

Dr. El-Minshawy explained that the conference is one of the most significant  African conferences concerned with lung cancer diseases, as the conference discussed the most prominent challenges facing African countries in the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer, highlighting the importance of specialized clinical research that takes into account the biological and genetic characteristics of the continent's population.

For his part, Dr. Bishoy Allam pointed out the importance of this participation, which brings together a group of all medical specialties concerned with chest diseases, experts and distinguished scientists from Africa, explaining that the participants during the conference emphasized that the results of research coming from Europe and North America may not be directly applicable to African people, which calls for strengthening scientific research directed to this category of patients.

Dr. Bishoy added that Assiut University was one of the first universities to adopt the multidisciplinary medical team (MDT) system, under the supervision of Dr. Hussein El-Khayat, Professor of Thoracic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, to ensure comprehensive care, according to the latest international standards, and the university has the latest advanced surgical techniques, including the Uniportal VATS technique, which is a breakthrough in minimally invasive chest surgeries, which contributes to improving patient outcomes and speeding up their recovery.

This prominent scientific participation indicates the role of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Assiut University in diagnosing and treating chest diseases, and keeping abreast of new developments in the field of lung cancer, under the supervision of Dr. Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, and Dr. Mohamed Ayad, Head of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Director of the University Heart Hospital.
