Assiut University Discusses Strategies to Enhance the National Literacy Project

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy Commends Assiut University Students for Helping 70,339 Citizens Achieve Literacy Between 2021 and 2026 and Reaffirms the University's Commitment to the National Literacy Initiative

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, praised the University's outstanding achievements in the field of literacy and adult education, emphasizing that students' success in helping 70,339 citizens achieve literacy between 2021 and 2026 reflects the University's effective community engagement and its commitment to fulfilling its societal role alongside its educational and research mission.

He noted that this achievement demonstrates the University's students' awareness of the importance of contributing to national priorities and highlights the success of the University's partnership with the General Authority for Adult Education in supporting the state's efforts to promote literacy and improve educational awareness throughout the community.

In this context, Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, chaired a meeting of the Higher Committee for Adult Literacy to review the University's ongoing efforts in literacy and adult education and discuss proposals aimed at enhancing implementation mechanisms and increasing achievement rates.

The meeting was attended by Professor Hassan Huweil, Dean of the Faculty of Education; Professor Mohamed Abourahab, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts for Education and Student Affairs; Professor Iman Abdel Aal, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social Work for Education and Student Affairs; Professor Mohamed Abdel Baset, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Howaida Mahmoud Sayed, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Ahmed Abdallah El-Sagheer, Director of the Adult Education Center at the Faculty of Education; Mr. Nady Ibrahim Abdel Aal, Director of the Assiut Branch of the General Authority for Adult Education; Ms. Mofida Adel El-Amir, Coordinator of Cooperation between the University and the Authority and Director General of the Information Center at the Authority's Assiut Branch; and Mr. El-Husseiny El-Tayeb, Director of the Technical Office of the Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development.

Professor Mohamed Adawy affirmed that Assiut University attaches great importance to literacy initiatives as part of its community mission and national responsibility toward the people of Assiut Governorate. He emphasized the University's commitment to mobilizing its academic and human resources to support the General Authority for Adult Education and to strengthening cooperation under the partnership protocol signed between the two institutions.

The Vice President explained that the meeting reviewed the University's achievements within the National Literacy Project. University students successfully helped 4,918 citizens achieve literacy during the October 2025 examination cycle and 3,561 citizens during the January 2026 cycle, bringing the total number of beneficiaries between 2021 and 2026 to 70,339 citizens across Assiut Governorate.

He added that the committee discussed several proposals to enhance the project's effectiveness, including establishing clear and unified regulations governing the implementation and follow-up of University Council Resolution No. 734 (2022), which requires students to help two individuals achieve literacy as a prerequisite for graduation. The meeting also recommended organizing training programs for students during October and November to familiarize them with adult education methodologies and teaching techniques, thereby improving performance and achieving more effective outcomes.

Professor Mohamed Adawy also stressed the importance of recognizing and rewarding outstanding student participants in appreciation of their significant voluntary contributions to society and to encourage continued participation in literacy initiatives, which represent a key pillar of human development and sustainable development efforts.

Assiut University Board of Directors of the Conference Center and Guest House Reviews Development Plans, Digital Transformation, and Service Enhancement

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Board of Directors of the Conference Center and Guest House held its regular meeting for June 2026, chaired by Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, to review the Center's operations and discuss ways to enhance and further improve the quality of services in accordance with institutional excellence and quality standards. The meeting was attended by Mr. Shawky Saber, Secretary-General of the University.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy reaffirmed the University's commitment to the continuous development of the Conference Center and Guest House as one of its key facilities supporting academic, scientific, and community activities. He emphasized the University's ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiency and modernize the Center's management systems to enhance service quality and increase the readiness of its facilities to host a wide range of events and conferences. He further noted that the University is pursuing an integrated strategy aimed at maximizing the use of its resources and capabilities while adopting modern management practices and digital transformation initiatives in line with the state's vision for sustainable institutional development.

During the meeting, the Board reviewed several agenda items, including a proposal from the Faculty of Agriculture identifying agricultural products that the Faculty could produce and supply to the Guest House, thereby strengthening integration among the University's various units and maximizing the utilization of its resources. The Board also discussed the latest developments in the Guest House digitalization project and approved the preparation of a cooperation protocol between Assiut University and Assiut National University, represented by the University's Conference Center and Guest House units.

Professor Mohamed Adawy explained that the meeting forms part of the University's regular follow-up of the Conference Center and Guest House's performance and development plans to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality services that meet the University's needs and aspirations. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation among the University's different sectors while making optimal use of its diverse resources and capabilities.

He further noted that the Board reviewed several additional agenda items, including a report on the supply and installation of a new sound system for the conference halls and a report submitted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration concerning the Guest House kitchen exhaust system, as part of the University's ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure and improve service quality.

Assiut University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Inspects Development and Maintenance Works at Faculty Housing Complexes

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, affirmed the University's commitment to the continuous improvement and development of the campus environment and infrastructure across all University facilities. He emphasized the importance of enhancing these facilities in a manner that reflects the distinctive architectural character of the University campus, while maximizing the utilization of available spaces and resources to provide more comprehensive and advanced services.

As part of these efforts, Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, conducted an inspection tour on Sunday, June 21, of the Eastern and Western Faculty Housing Complexes to monitor the ongoing development and maintenance works and assess implementation progress and work quality. The tour was attended by Professor Essam El-Sherif, Chairman of the Administrative Housing Board.

During the visit, Professor Mohamed Adawy inspected the upgrading of pedestrian walkways and perimeter walls, general maintenance and renovation works, the development and maintenance of the football field, and the completion of barbed-wire fencing around the housing complex to enhance safety and provide an integrated residential environment for faculty members.

During the tour, the Vice President stressed the importance of completing all ongoing works according to the approved timeline while adhering to the highest standards of quality and efficiency. He noted that these projects are part of the University's broader efforts to modernize its facilities and provide a well-maintained and supportive living environment for faculty members.

The inspection tour was accompanied by Eng. Assiut University Organizes Workshop Entitled "Together Against Child Harassment" to Promote Awareness of Child Protection and Prevention Mechanisms

As part of Assiut University's commitment to promoting community awareness and strengthening child protection efforts, and under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of the University, the Center for Monitoring and Studying Community Problems organized a workshop entitled "Protecting Children from Verbal, Physical, and Psychological Abuse" under the slogan "Together Against Child Harassment." The workshop was held under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Professor Ali Kamal Maabed, Director of the Center, and Dr. Asmaa Gaber Mehran, Deputy Director of the Center.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized that protecting children is a shared societal responsibility requiring the concerted efforts of educational, religious, and community institutions. He noted that raising a generation that is psychologically and socially secure begins with instilling a culture of respect and awareness of rights and responsibilities from an early age.

The University President added that Assiut University is committed to supporting awareness initiatives and programs that promote public understanding of children's rights and protection, while fostering a safe environment that supports their healthy psychological and social development. Such efforts, he noted, align with the Egyptian state's vision of investing in human development and preparing generations capable of contributing to sustainable development.

The workshop brought together a distinguished group of specialists and representatives of institutions concerned with child and family welfare, including Professor Marwa Kedwany, Rapporteur of the National Council for Women in Assiut and Member of the House of Representatives; Professor Reham El-Meligy, Dean of the Faculty of Early Childhood Education; Professor Wafaa Maher, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Sheikh Sayed Abdel Aziz, Secretary-General of the Egyptian Family House – Assiut Branch; Father Amos Basta, Assistant Secretary-General of the Egyptian Family House – Assiut Branch; Dr. Ali Seddiq, Director of the General Human Rights Protection Unit in Assiut Governorate; Ms. Walaa Massoud, Director of the General Child Protection Unit in Assiut; Mr. Mohamed Abdo, Rapporteur of the National Population Council in Assiut Governorate; Mr. Hesham Mohamed, Director of the Child Protection Sub-Unit in West Assiut District; Ms. Noha Milad, Deputy Director of Al-Salam Modern School for Kindergarten and Primary Education; Dr. Sahar Badr, Social Worker at Martyr Ahmed Fayez Girls' Secondary School; Mr. Yasser Mohamed, Social Worker at the Assiut Child Protection Unit; and Ms. Rasha Zeidan and Ms. Fatma Attia, teachers at Nasser Military Secondary School in Assiut.

Professor Mohamed Adawy explained that the workshop addressed a number of key topics aimed at strengthening child protection against all forms of abuse and harassment. He stressed the importance of raising children's awareness from an early age—particularly during the kindergarten years—while promoting positive communication between parents and children and developing children's personal safety skills to help them respond appropriately to different situations.

For his part, Professor Ali Kamal Maabed noted that creating a safe environment for children requires increasing awareness across institutions. He emphasized the importance of implementing preventive policies within educational institutions and strengthening monitoring, follow-up, and rapid intervention mechanisms to respond effectively to suspected cases of abuse or harassment.

Participants also underscored the importance of coordination among institutions concerned with child protection, particularly the National Council for Women, the Egyptian Family House, and educational institutions. They stressed the need to implement awareness programs targeting families, recognizing them as the first line of defense in protecting children and promoting a culture of prevention throughout society.

Dr. Asmaa Gaber Mehran presented the workshop's key recommendations, which included expanding awareness programs on children's rights and protection mechanisms in schools, families, and the media; strengthening early detection and rapid intervention systems within educational and healthcare institutions; providing safe, confidential, and accessible reporting channels for children; offering continuous psychological and social support services for child victims of abuse; enhancing coordination among education, health, social protection, and legal authorities; and developing digital awareness platforms for children and parents to promote a culture of prevention and increase public awareness of children's rights.

Assiut University Community Service Council Reviews Community Development Plans and Approves the El-Hawatka Development Convoy

The Community Service and Environmental Development Council at Assiut University held its 269th regular meeting on Monday, June 22, under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of the University, and chaired by Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, with the attendance of the Council members to discuss a number of issues related to community service and environmental development.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy affirmed the University's commitment to strengthening its developmental and community role through initiatives, outreach convoys, and programs aimed at serving society and improving citizens' quality of life. He noted that the University continues to support the Sustainable Development Goals while promoting environmental and health awareness, reflecting its national mission and commitment to community service and environmental sustainability.

At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Mohamed Adawy congratulated the University on achieving third place in the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector ranking issued by the Supreme Council of Universities. He praised the collective efforts of the University's various sectors in achieving this distinguished accomplishment.

During the session, the Council approved the organization of the fourth Assiut University Development Convoy for Community Service, scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 27, in El-Hawatka Village, as part of the University's ongoing commitment to providing developmental, awareness, and healthcare services to underserved communities.

The Council also approved the launch of the "Safety First" initiative across the University's faculties to promote a culture of occupational safety and health and raise awareness of preventive measures among members of the University community, thereby contributing to a safer educational and working environment.

In addition, the Council discussed a proposal involving the Faculties of Social Work, Fine Arts, Computers and Information, and Education in implementing graduation projects that serve the South Egypt Cancer Institute, with the aim of utilizing students' talents to support community institutions and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The meeting also reviewed a proposal to enroll employees of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector in specialized training courses on Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel to enhance their digital skills and professional competencies, thereby improving the quality and efficiency of administrative performance.

The Council further reviewed the implementation of environmental action plans submitted by the University's faculties and committees. These plans include programs for energy and water conservation, smoking prevention, and the safe disposal of various types of waste, in support of sustainable environmental practices across the University.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Professor Mohamed Adawy honored a number of deans and vice deans by presenting them with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their efforts to address observations related to occupational safety and health requirements and their commitment to strengthening safety standards across the University's faculties.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, chaired a coordination meeting on Tuesday, June 23, in the University Council Hall with Professor Abla El-Alfy, Deputy Minister of Health and Population for Population and Family Development. The meeting was held within the framework of implementing the cooperation protocol recently signed between Assiut University and the Ministry of Health and Population to activate the Presidential Initiative "The Golden 1,000 Days for the Development of the Egyptian Family" and support the implementation of the National Population and Development Strategy.

The meeting focused on discussing mechanisms for implementing the provisions of the cooperation protocol and developing an action plan to activate the Presidential Initiative across the University, its hospitals, and relevant faculties. The initiative aims to support the State's efforts to improve the health of the Egyptian family and enhance population characteristics as part of the second phase of the National Population and Development Strategy.

Discussions also explored ways to leverage Assiut University's scientific, academic, and medical capabilities to enhance community awareness of maternal and child health and family development, thereby contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt's vision for human development.

The meeting was attended by Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board; Professor Mohamed Gamal, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Assiut; Professor Fatma Roshdy, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing; and Professor Rehab El-Dakhly, Media Advisor to the University President. At the outset of the meeting, Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy welcomed the delegation from the Ministry of Health and Population, emphasizing that the meeting builds upon the ongoing cooperation between the two institutions following the signing of the cooperation protocol for implementing the "Golden 1,000 Days for the Development of the Egyptian Family" initiative and the National Population and Development Strategy. Professor El-Minshawy praised the Egyptian State's vision under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which places people at the center of national development and prioritizes building human capacities from early childhood. He noted that the initiative translates this vision into practice by focusing on the first 1,000 days of life, a critical period for shaping a child's physical, mental, and psychological development.

The University President also extended his sincere appreciation to Professor Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, in recognition of his continued support for national initiatives aimed at investing in human development and improving family health.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed that the success of the "Golden 1,000 Days for the Development of the Egyptian Family" initiative depends on effective integration among multiple disciplines. He explained that the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector contributes by promoting awareness and strengthening community partnerships, while the University's medical and scientific faculties provide specialized expertise in maternal and child healthcare. He also highlighted the vital role of nursing professionals in engaging directly with families, as well as the important contribution of the media in effectively disseminating health awareness messages.

He reaffirmed Assiut University's full readiness to dedicate its scientific, academic, and medical expertise to implementing the objectives of the cooperation protocol, supporting the State's efforts to advance the National Population and Development Strategy, and contributing to the success of the current phase of the "Golden 1,000 Days" initiative in line with the goals of Egypt's New Republic to build healthier, more informed, and more stable Egyptian families.

For her part, Professor Abla El-Alfy praised Assiut University's developmental and community role, emphasizing that Egyptian universities are strategic partners in supporting the State's efforts to improve population characteristics and promote health awareness across all segments of society.

The meeting included extensive discussions on the practical mechanisms for implementing the "Golden 1,000 Days for the Development of the Egyptian Family" initiative, activating the provisions of the cooperation protocol, and strengthening the University's contribution to community awareness efforts. Participants also discussed enhancing cooperation among the University's faculties, sectors, and relevant healthcare institutions to ensure the integrated implementation of the initiative and improve health and population indicators.

Participants further emphasized the pivotal role of media institutions in supporting the National Population and Development Strategy by disseminating health messages, correcting misconceptions, and raising awareness of maternal and child health and family development. They also stressed the importance of involving nursing students in community outreach activities and providing health counseling to families and women regarding family planning methods.

Professor Abla El-Alfy also reviewed a number of population and health indicators related to Assiut Governorate, emphasizing the need to intensify medical and awareness efforts to reduce unnecessary cesarean deliveries. She also called for strengthening cooperation with Assiut University by drawing upon the expertise of its faculty members and healthcare professionals to provide technical support and promote evidence-based clinical practices that improve maternal and child health indicators and advance the objectives of the National Population and Development Strategy.

Deputy Minister of Health and Population Discusses the Implementation of the "Golden 1,000 Days for the Development of the Egyptian Family" Initiative and Announces the Formation of a Committee to Oversee the Population Emergency Action Plan

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the University hosted a scientific lecture on Tuesday, June 23, delivered by Professor Abla El-Alfy, Deputy Minister of Health and Population for Population and Family Development. During the lecture, she reviewed the implementation framework of the Presidential Initiative "The Golden 1,000 Days for the Development of the Egyptian Family," discussed the proposed implementation mechanisms, and announced the formation of a joint committee to oversee the execution of the initiative's programs and activities at Assiut University. The event was attended by Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Professor Mohamed Gamal, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Assiut.

The lecture highlighted the objectives and key pillars of the initiative, explored mechanisms for strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Population and Assiut University, reviewed the achievements made in the fields of population, development, and maternal and child health during 2025, and discussed the implementation plan for 2026.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy praised the importance of the lecture and the comprehensive overview it provided of the initiative, emphasizing that it represents a valuable contribution to defining priorities and establishing a clear implementation framework for this vital national initiative.

Professor Abla El-Alfy presented a detailed overview of the most significant achievements in the areas of population and development, maternal health, and child health. She reviewed the initiative's implementation plan, which is designed to support the objectives of the National Population and Development Strategy by addressing demographic challenges through awareness programs, healthcare interventions, and specialized training, thereby improving performance indicators related to maternal and child health and family planning.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that the current phase focuses on strengthening integration between health and academic institutions in addressing population-related challenges through expanding awareness campaigns, field interventions, and improving the quality of healthcare services, in support of the State's efforts to achieve sustainable development and invest in human development.

In his remarks, Professor Mohamed Adawy affirmed that the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector continues its efforts to address priority societal issues by implementing a wide range of awareness and community-based initiatives targeting both the University community and the wider public. He highlighted the role of the Center for Monitoring and Studying Community Problems in identifying societal challenges and proposing practical solutions in cooperation with relevant stakeholders. He further noted that the University continues to harness its academic and research capabilities to serve the community and strengthen partnerships with healthcare and development institutions in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and improved quality of life.

The lecture featured extensive scientific discussions and interventions by a number of University leaders, reflecting the integration of academic, medical, and media sectors. Participants emphasized the importance of translating the objectives of the national strategy into practical implementation plans within the University and its hospitals.

Participants also stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among academic, healthcare, and media sectors to support the initiative's objectives. They highlighted the need to prepare qualified nursing professionals specializing in maternal and child healthcare, proposed the establishment of a professional diploma in Midwifery, emphasized the importance of training internship students to provide health counseling at the University Women's Health Hospital, and called for greater awareness of healthy birth spacing.

They further underscored the vital role of the media in supporting awareness campaigns related to reproductive health and family planning through disseminating educational messages across various media platforms and strengthening partnerships with health and academic institutions to support national initiatives, particularly the "Golden 1,000 Days for the Development of the Egyptian Family" initiative.

President of Assiut University: The Botanical Garden Features Nearly 1,000 Trees Representing 180 Plant Species, Supporting Education, Scientific Research, and Environmental Sustainability

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, inaugurated on Wednesday, June 24, the second phase of the Open Botanical Garden at the University's Old Campus. The inauguration marks another milestone in completing the University's integrated botanical garden project, which was launched last year to support education and scientific research, promote environmental sustainability, and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the University campus.

The inauguration took place under the supervision and in the presence of Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development and Chairman of the Project Supervisory Committee; Professor Abu Bakr Mohamed El-Tayeb, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Vice Chairman of the Committee; Professor Magdy Alwan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; Professor Saleh Mahmoud, Dean of the Faculty of Sugar Industry and Integrated Industries Technology; Professor Essam Fadl Abu Zeid, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science for Community Service and Environmental Development and Supervisor of the project's implementation; Professor Hamed Mashhour, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Professor Raymond Zaki, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Sugar Industry and Integrated Industries Technology for Community Service and Environmental Development.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy affirmed that Assiut University continues to implement environmental and development projects that support education and scientific research while enhancing the quality of life on campus. He noted that the Open Botanical Garden represents a practical model integrating education, research, and community service, while also promoting environmental awareness and fostering a culture of sustainability among students and members of the University community.

The second phase of the garden includes approximately 1,000 trees and plants representing nearly 180 plant species and varieties, many of them rare and distinctive. This makes the garden an important scientific reference for students and researchers, supporting the study of plant biodiversity and the conservation of rare and endangered species, while also contributing to the creation of a healthy and sustainable campus environment.

The garden features a distinguished collection of ornamental trees, palm trees, aromatic plants, and tropical species, in addition to a variety of fruit trees, including local lemon, guava, mango, grapevine, Umm Al-Fawakeh (monkey orange), loquat, mulberry, date palm, and Christ's thorn jujube. It also includes several rare species, such as Ficus benghalensis, Ficus platyphylla, bottlebrush, rose of Jericho, Indian jasmine, kaya trees, and Abu Al-Makarem trees.

All plants within the garden have been provided with identification signs displaying their scientific names, botanical families, principal uses, benefits, and geographical distribution. Each sign also features a QR code linked to a dedicated webpage on the University's official website, enabling visitors to access detailed information about each plant. This initiative enhances the educational and research value of the project while employing modern digital technologies to promote botanical knowledge.

The University President commended the efforts made in implementing the project and affirmed the University's commitment to expanding environmental initiatives that support the Sustainable Development Goals, thereby reinforcing Assiut University's position as a leading educational and research institution dedicated to community service and environmental stewardship.

For his part, Professor Mohamed Adawy explained that the Open Botanical Garden project is part of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector's efforts to transform the University campus into an open educational and cultural environment that supports experiential learning and enhances environmental awareness among students and visitors. He emphasized that the project reflects the University's commitment to its community and environmental responsibilities alongside its educational and research mission.

The Assiut University Council held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 24, under the chairmanship of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, and in the presence of Major General Mohamed Alwan, Governor of Assiut, together with the University's vice presidents, Secretary-General, deans of faculties, and advisors to the University President. The meeting addressed a number of issues related to the University's educational, research, and community service activities.

At the outset of the meeting, Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy welcomed Major General Mohamed Alwan and expressed his appreciation for the Governor's participation in the Council meeting, noting that it reflects the strong and ongoing partnership between Assiut University and Assiut Governorate and reinforces their joint efforts to advance comprehensive development and community service.

The University President also extended his sincere congratulations to His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and to the Egyptian people on the anniversary of the June 30 Revolution, describing it as a pivotal moment in Egypt's modern history that strengthened the foundations of stability and paved the way for a new era of national development and achievement.

Professor El-Minshawy paid tribute to the members of the Egyptian Armed Forces for their enduring role in safeguarding the nation and preserving its security and stability. He also honored the memory of the country's martyrs from the Armed Forces, Police, and civilians who sacrificed their lives for Egypt.

He further highlighted the major national development projects currently being implemented across various sectors despite global challenges and rapid international developments, emphasizing that these initiatives reflect the State's vision for comprehensive development and contribute to strengthening Egypt's position while promoting continued progress and prosperity.

For his part, Major General Mohamed Alwan praised the University's remarkable progress across its academic, research, medical, and community service sectors. He noted that these achievements reflect visionary leadership and sustained efforts to strengthen the University's position as a leading educational institution serving both Assiut Governorate and Upper Egypt. He also commended the University's role as one of the region's foremost centers of scientific expertise and academic excellence.

The Governor further praised the University's contributions, under the leadership of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, to national development through the provision of scientific expertise and specialized consultations supporting major national and development projects. He also congratulated the members of the University Council on the approaching anniversary of the June 30 Revolution.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy also congratulated the Egyptian national football team on its historic victory over New Zealand during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking Egypt's first-ever World Cup win. He described the achievement as a source of pride for all Egyptians and a testament to the ability of the nation's people to accomplish remarkable successes and raise Egypt's profile internationally.

The University President expressed his appreciation to faculty members and administrative staff for their dedicated efforts throughout the academic year and the examination period. He praised their contributions to ensuring the smooth administration of examinations and emphasized the importance of promptly completing grading procedures, finalizing examination results, and announcing them without delay.

Professor El-Minshawy also reviewed the University's most significant achievements during the previous month. He expressed pride in the Faculty of Engineering students whose graduation project resulted in a research paper published in a prestigious international journal. He also highlighted the international success of one of the Faculty's graduates, whose team won second place worldwide in the final round of the Huawei ICT Competition held in China.

He further commended the outstanding graduation projects presented across the University's various faculties, noting that they demonstrate the students' promising talents and innovative ideas deserving of continued support and encouragement.

The University President also praised the continued accomplishments of Assiut University's physicians and healthcare professionals within the University Hospitals, noting that several highly specialized and complex surgical procedures—performed for the first time in Upper Egypt—reflect the advanced scientific, medical, and clinical capabilities achieved by the University's healthcare system.

On the international front, Professor El-Minshawy highlighted the University's continued progress in global rankings. Assiut University was ranked among the top 500 universities worldwide in the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings, advanced 27 places in the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP), and was included in the QS World University Rankings 2027, where it ranked fifth among Egyptian public universities. He noted that these accomplishments reflect the University's growing academic and research reputation internationally.

As part of the University's commitment to providing an integrated educational environment, Professor El-Minshawy pointed to the continued development of the University's residence halls and the enhancement of services provided to students, in addition to upgrading the facilities of the Olympic Village to support sports and student activities.

He also reaffirmed the University's commitment to supporting Egypt's vision for human development and sustainable development through the signing of a cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Health and Population to implement the Presidential Initiative "The Golden 1,000 Days for the Development of the Egyptian Family" and the National Population and Development Strategy, thereby promoting community awareness and supporting the objectives of Egypt Vision 2030.

The Council approved the accreditation of the Continuing Medical Education Unit at the Faculty of Dentistry as an accredited continuing education provider by the American Dental Association Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP). The decision reflects the Faculty's academic and professional excellence and is expected to enhance the competitiveness of its graduates in regional and international labor markets.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized that this international accreditation represents a significant addition to the University's medical education system and further strengthens the quality of its continuing education and professional training programs for dental practitioners.

The Council also approved the acceptance of a donation from HVD Life Sciences to support the University's Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory, consisting of a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) system valued at USD 198,950. The donation will enhance the University's research, diagnostic, and laboratory capabilities while strengthening the infrastructure of its specialized laboratories.

In addition, the Council approved the launch of postgraduate diploma programs in Structural Engineering, Irrigation, Hydraulics and Water Resources, and Public Works Engineering within the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, beginning in the first semester of the 2026/2027 academic year, provided that each program enrolls at least five engineers.

The Council also approved the revised internal regulations governing the credit-hour postgraduate programs at the Faculty of Pharmacy, following the required amendments recommended by the relevant sector committee of the Supreme Council of Universities. It likewise approved the revised postgraduate regulations of the Faculty of Specific Education for the Departments of Art Education, Music Education, Home Economics, and Educational Technology.

Furthermore, the Council approved the establishment of the Best Applied Research Award in Energy, effective October 2026, in accordance with the criteria proposed by the Director of the University's Energy Management Center in cooperation with the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector.

The Council also approved amendments to the curriculum of the Marketing and Agricultural Economic Information Systems Program (a tuition-based special program at the Faculty of Agriculture), in accordance with the recommendations of the Interdisciplinary Studies Sector Committee.

Additionally, the Council approved the proposed National Academic Reference Standards for the Sports Health Sciences and Sports Psychology bachelor's degree programs at the Faculty of Sports Sciences.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the University Council approved the appointment of a number of professors and associate professors across various faculties of the University.

Medical Convoy from Assiut University's Faculty of Dentistry Provides Awareness and Treatment Services to More Than 300 Children in Cooperation with Operation Smile Egypt

Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, and Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Faculty of Dentistry organized a medical convoy in cooperation with Operation Smile Egypt, providing preventive awareness and dental treatment services to more than 300 children.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy affirmed that the University is committed to supporting health initiatives that combine awareness and treatment while promoting healthy behaviors among children from an early age. He noted that organizing such medical convoys reflects the University's commitment to expanding the scope of healthcare and awareness services offered to the community and strengthening partnerships with organizations working in the healthcare sector, thereby creating a positive impact on the lives of beneficiaries and their families.

Professor Mohamed Adawy explained that the convoy was organized as part of Assiut University's community service mission to support health and awareness initiatives targeting children. He noted that the medical team examined more than 300 children, ranging in age from 3 to 15 years, who attended the University Hospital. In addition to clinical examinations, the convoy provided a range of dental treatments, including fillings, tooth extractions, and dental restorations, according to each patient's individual needs.

The Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development added that the Assiut University Specialized Hospitals continue to play a vital role in supporting the State's efforts to develop the healthcare system by providing distinguished medical services that benefit all segments of society.

For her part, Professor Safaa Marzouk stated that this was the seventh medical convoy organized by the Faculty of Dentistry and the second dedicated specifically to Pediatric Dentistry. She emphasized the Faculty's commitment to continuing such community outreach initiatives to promote oral health awareness and encourage healthy practices among children and their families.

Professor Mohamed Nahid explained that the convoy extended beyond providing clinical treatment to include educational and awareness programs for children. These activities focused on the importance of maintaining good oral and dental health, introducing children to proper oral hygiene practices, and promoting preventive measures against oral diseases.

The convoy was attended by Professor Zein El-Abedeen, Deputy Director of the University Dental Hospital; Dr. Yasmine Ahmed Mortada; and Dr. Ahmed Kamel, supervisors of the convoy, in addition to a number of faculty members and teaching assistants from the Department of Pediatric Dentistry.
