The Dean of the College congratulates the graduating students of the Biomedical Engineering program for receiving financial support from several organizations.
Professor Dr. Khaled Salah, Dean of the College, and Professor Dr. Mohamed Safwat Abu Raya, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, received a report from Dr. Abdel Rahman Ahmed Ali Morsi, Coordinator of the Biomedical Engineering program at the College. The coordinator explained that all five graduation projects in the Biomedical Engineering program this year received funding from several Egyptian donor organizations. The report detailed the funding received by the five projects as follows:
1. A smart baby incubator project equipped with advanced Internet of Things (IoT) features, which received funding from the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) amounting to 29,380 Egyptian pounds.

Professor Khaled Salah, Dean of the Faculty, congratulated the students and supervisory staff of the program on this success, which confirms the students' ability to compete with their peers from various Egyptian universities and reflects the confidence of the supporting and funding bodies in the capabilities of the faculty's students. He commended the efforts of the program administration and supervisory staff, which resulted in the students receiving this financial support that, along with the support of the university, the faculty, and the program, contributes to developing the project outcomes.
The Dean also expressed his gratitude to the funding bodies for the program's graduation projects: the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), the Industrial Development Authority, the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Misr El Kheir Foundation, and the Egypt Makes program. He acknowledged their support, which contributes to developing the students' skills and the quality of the submitted projects.
He also extended his thanks and appreciation to the university administration, headed by Professor Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of the University, and Professor Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, for their unlimited support of the educational and applied process at the faculty, which is reflected in the students' work and projects.
It is worth noting that other graduation projects across various programs and departments within the college have received support from multiple entities, including the Assiut branch of the Engineers Syndicate, the "Egypt Makes" program, the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), the Industrial Development Authority, the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Misr El Kheir Foundation, and others.
Dr. Abdel Rahman Morsi, the program coordinator, explained that the Biomedical Engineering program aims to prepare specialized engineers in the field of biomedical engineering, equipped with the necessary expertise and knowledge to apply engineering systems, digital technologies, and modern computing in healthcare, keeping pace with global innovations in this vital sector.
The program consists of ten semesters, totaling 160 credit hours, after which graduates receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering, qualifying them for membership in the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate.
Admission to the program is open to students admitted to the college through the university admissions office or through transfers from engineering colleges nationwide, in accordance with the regulations set by the Supreme Council of Universities.
The program qualifies graduates to work in the design, operation, maintenance and development of medical devices and technologies within health and industrial institutions locally and internationally, in order to meet the needs of the local and international labor market.
On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Professor Khaled Salah, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, received Professor Ehab Khalaf, Professor of Electronics and Communications Engineering and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Aswan University for Community Service and Environmental Development. This meeting took place on the sidelines of Professor Khalaf's participation in the examination of the Master's thesis submitted by Engineer Ahmed Mohamed Omar Mohamed, an engineer at the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO).
Also present at the meeting were Professor Shehata El-Dabaa Abdel-Rahim, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research; Professor Mohamed Safwat Abu-Rayeh, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Professor Mohamed Abbas Abdel-Radi, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department and thesis supervisor; and Professor Hammad Abu-Zeid, Supervisor of the Scientific Equipment Maintenance Center.
The thesis is titled "Efficient Physical Design for Hand Gesture Classification in Enhanced Prosthetics Using Deep Learning."
The thesis was supervised by Professor Mohamed Abbas Abdel-Radi, Professor Khalil Ismail Khalil, and Associate Professor Qassem Khalil, all professors in the Electrical Engineering Department at Assiut University. The thesis examination committee consisted of Professor Hany Selim, Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department, Assiut University, and Professor Ehab Khalaf, Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Environmental Affairs and Community Service, Aswan University, in addition to the supervisory committee.
Professor Mohamed Abbas Abdel-Radi explained that the thesis is a first step towards acquiring the knowledge necessary to design effective and affordable prosthetic limbs. The thesis focuses on designing and developing low-cost, highly efficient integrated systems for smart prosthetic limbs, aiming to help amputees integrate into society and perform their daily tasks. This is achieved by utilizing surface muscle signaling (sEMG) and deep learning algorithms to accurately and quickly classify hand movements, supporting real-time operation.
The Dean of the College Holds a Meeting to Follow Up on Several Matters.
Professor Dr. Khaled Salah, Dean of the College, held a meeting on Monday, July 6, 2026, to discuss progress on several important matters. The meeting addressed the progress of the new college regulations and the requirements for registration in the National Qualifications Framework, as well as the progress of the program accreditation process for the various programs.
During the meeting, the various challenges facing each project and ways to overcome them were discussed, along with the timeline for completing the work in light of different factors. Methods for expanding the participation of faculty members, teaching assistants, students, and administrative staff in various related activities were also discussed.
Attendees included Professor Dr. Mohamed Safwat Abu Raya, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Professor Dr. Mahmoud Anib Othman, Director of the College's Quality Assurance Unit; department heads; specialized program coordinators; quality assurance coordinators for departments and programs; and administrators from the College's Quality Assurance Unit.
The Dean of the Faculty received the President of Aswan University and the Head of the Permanent Scientific Committee for the Promotion of Professors and Associate Professors in the field of Electrical Power and Machines.
On Monday, July 6, 2026, Professor Khaled Salah, Dean of the Faculty, received Professor Loay Saad El-Din Nosrat, President of Aswan University and Professor of Electrical Power Engineering, on the sidelines of his participation in the examination committee for the doctoral dissertation submitted by Engineer Mahmoud Ibrahim Mohamed Saad, Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering. The Dean also received Professor Al-Moataz Youssef Abdel Aziz, Professor of Electrical Power Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Head of the Permanent Scientific Committee for the Promotion of Professors and Associate Professors in the field of Electrical Power and Machines, and also a dissertation examiner.
The reception was attended by Professor Mohamed Safwat Abu Raya, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Professor Mohamed Abbas Abdel Rady, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Professors Ali Mohamed Youssef and Ahmed Abdel Malek, both professors in the Electrical Power Engineering Department and the dissertation supervisors. It is worth noting that the thesis, titled "Design and Analysis of Optimal Performance of an Electrical Power System Using Artificial Intelligence," focuses on improving fuel utilization to enhance operational efficiency and ensure effective management of the power system. The study also aims to reduce operating costs and improve the sustainability of the electrical grid by proposing and developing two simple and effective approaches for implementing economical operation across diverse operating conditions, particularly in scenarios of fuel shortages or supply constraints. This maximizes resource utilization while maintaining capacity balance and system reliability within defined operational limits.
The study then addressed a broader challenge faced by many optimization algorithms: random initialization, which often leads to increased search times and unstable results. To overcome this problem, a hybrid optimization framework was developed that integrates artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to guide optimization algorithms toward an optimal starting point. This approach contributes to reducing the time and effort required to identify the best possible solution.
The research has resulted in the publication of several scientific articles in prestigious indexed journals and conferences within leading scientific institutions and databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, and IEEE.
The Assiut Robotics team at the Faculty of Engineering achieved outstanding results in several competitions at Badr University in Assiut.
Under the generous patronage of Professor Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of the University, and Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and under the auspices of Professor Dr. Khaled Salah, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Professor Dr. Mohamed Safwat Abu-Rayeh, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and supervised by Professor Dr. Mazen Abdel-Salam, Professor Emeritus in the Electrical Engineering Department, the Assiut Robotics team at the Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University, achieved first place in the Line Race competition.
The team also achieved second place in the Go Dive Derby – GDD 2026 competition, both part of Global Robotics 2026, which was held at Badr University in Assiut (BUA).
In this context, Professor Dr. Khaled Salah, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, extends his sincere congratulations to the team on this distinguished achievement and wishes them continued success in all future competitions.
The Line Racer competition is one of the most prominent competitions for autonomous ground robots. It focuses on designing and operating high-speed, intelligent robots capable of following a predetermined path (a black line on a white background) with pinpoint accuracy and without any human intervention. This demands advanced capabilities in real-time navigation, sensing, and dynamic control under competitive racing conditions. The competition tasks include testing the robot's agility in maneuvering precisely around sharp turns, intelligently handling free-flowing intersections without distraction, recalibrating its course, and efficiently traversing gaps and ramps. This contributes to the simulation and development of autonomous driving and intelligent navigation systems used in logistics and modern factories. The competition also relies on the use of advanced technological and engineering systems, including an array of infrared (IR) sensors to determine the line's position, the application of advanced PID controller algorithms to adjust motor speed and torque in real-time with exceptional stability, and the use of differential steering to give the robot high maneuverability in tight spaces.
The Go Dive Derby is one of the most prominent underwater robotics competitions, focusing on the design and operation of robots capable of performing precise tasks that simulate real-world challenges in marine environments. These tasks demand advanced capabilities in control, vision, sensing, and operation under difficult underwater conditions. Competition tasks include installing and repairing damaged underwater cables, performing precise disassembly and assembly operations, and navigating narrow passages and hard-to-reach areas. The robots must complete tasks more quickly and efficiently than traditional methods, thus reducing risks to humans and protecting the marine environment.
The competition also utilizes advanced technological systems, including object and radar detection, the detection and classification of marine organisms, and the measurement of dimensions and distances using vision and sensor systems. Additionally, it involves creating 3D mapping models of underwater areas.






Within the framework of the College’s Strategic Plan 2026-2030, and within the framework of the objectives and activities of the second goal of the plan, “Postgraduate Studies and Distinguished Scientific Research”, the College of Engineering announces the holding of a series of lectures for teaching assistants, assistant lecturers and researchers in the College (all departments) on a free training course that addresses some of the basic research skills required, and the invitation is open to the public.

بUnder the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education...launching the “We Restore... We Innovate... We Build” competition to support student innovation in university waste management
Under the patronage of Dr. Abdulaziz Qanswa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Innovators and Geniuses Fund, in cooperation with the Leadership Development Institute, launched the “We Reinvent... We Build” competition, which aims to motivate university and institute students to provide innovative solutions to transform university waste from an environmental challenge into a real opportunity for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Dr. confirmed. Tamer Hamouda, Executive Director of the Fund for Innovators and Geniuses, said that the competition targets university and institute students. With the aim of enabling them to provide innovative and sustainable solutions for managing university waste through monitoring, sorting, recycling, and economic benefit from it, in a way that supports achieving the goals of Egypt’s Vision 2030 in the areas of environmental sustainability, green economy, and promoting a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Hamouda added that the competitions launched by the Fund represent a real platform for discovering and developing the creative energies of young people, as they provide innovators with integrated paths of support, incubation and guidance, enabling them to transform their ideas into innovative projects and startups capable of providing influential solutions that support the national economy and establish a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
For his part, Dr. confirmed. Karim Hammam, Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education for Student Activities and Director of the Leadership Preparation Institute, said that the Institute is keen to support initiatives and competitions that contribute to developing students’ capabilities and refining their creative skills, noting that the competition represents an integrated model for linking student activities with issues of sustainable development and societal challenges, thus enhancing the role of students as active partners in building a more sustainable future, stressing that cooperation with the Fund for the Care of Innovators and Geniuses comes within the framework of integrated efforts to support the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within universities and institutes, and provide the opportunity for Students to transform their innovative ideas into implementable projects that achieve tangible economic and environmental impact.
Dr. Mustafa Amin, Director of the Competition at the Innovators and Geniuses Fund, explained that the competition is implemented in two main stages: The first stage begins within universities and institutes by registering the educational institution, organizing internal competitions or hackathons to select the best student ideas and innovations, with the formation of multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated solutions covering the four different tracks of the competition. He pointed out that the second stage includes competing at the national level, where the best teams from each university or institute are nominated, with a maximum of 3 teams. The projects are then subjected to specialized evaluation and arbitration processes to select the qualified teams, and give them an opportunity to develop their prototypes before the final presentation before the jury, leading up to the final day, which witnesses the announcement of the winners. And honoring the best innovative projects.
The competition timeline includes several consecutive stages, beginning with the acceptance of applications from universities and institutes until July 22, 2026. This will be followed by internal competitions and hackathons from July 22 to August 22, 2026, to select the teams representing the educational institutions.
Applications for participating teams will be accepted until August 31. The shortlist of finalists will be announced on September 21, 2026. The project development and prototyping phase will then take place from September 21 to October 21, 2026. Final evaluation of the shortlisted projects will be held on November 15, and the competition will conclude with the grand finals on November 23, 2026, where the winning teams will be announced and the creators of the best solutions and innovations will be recognized.
