The College organizes a seminar on fire prevention and firefighting methods in buildings and facilities.

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawy, University President, and Professor Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Khaled Salah, Dean of the College, and Professor Dr. Salwa Abdel Rahman Megahed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, the College organized a public seminar on fire prevention and firefighting methods in buildings and facilities on Monday, May 18, 2026. The seminar featured presentations by Professor Dr. Mohamed Abu El-Qassem, former Dean of the College, and Professor Dr. Nabil Yassin Abdel Shafi, former Director of the Quality Assurance Unit, who addressed various aspects related to fire prevention within buildings and facilities.

The seminar was attended by Professor Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, along with several faculty members, department heads, teaching assistants, community representatives, and attendees from outside the university.

In his address, Professor Dr. Mohamed Adawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, emphasized the significant role the college plays in raising awareness about fire hazards and the importance of preparedness for dealing with them. He also stressed the need to repeat the seminar across the university and to publish a guide or brochures containing the seminar's recommendations for distribution throughout the university.

The Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Khaled Salah, explained that this seminar is one in a series presented by the College's Community Service and Environmental Development sector. These seminars aim to raise awareness of environmental and societal issues and their engineering solutions, as part of the College's strategic plan for the years 2026-2030. Today's seminar is particularly important because it focuses on protection against potential fire hazards due to the summer season and generally high temperatures, which create an increased risk of fires. This necessitates general preparedness and vigilance. The seminar included a mock evacuation drill to train the college's workshop staff on evacuation procedures in the event of fires or disasters. Professor Dr. Mohamed Aboul-Qassem and Professor Dr. Nabil Yassin expressed their gratitude to the lecturers for their participation in the seminar. His Excellency also expressed his gratitude to the university administration, headed by Professor Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawy, the university president, and Professor Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, the vice president for community service and environmental development, for their support of all the activities organized by the college in the field of community service and environmental development.

Concluding Recommendations of the Symposium: Fire Prevention and Control in Buildings and Facilities

The symposium emphasized that the safety of lives and property is a top priority, and that fire prevention is a shared responsibility between facility owners, their management, and regulatory authorities, in accordance with the provisions of Civil Protection Law No. 148 of 1959 and its amendments, and Egyptian Fire Code 203-2019.
The symposium recommended that all establishments adhere to the following:
- Implementing the requirements of the Egyptian fire code in its three stages: design, implementation, and operation.
- Conducting periodic maintenance of alarm systems, automatic extinguishing, manual fire extinguishers, and fire networks, by approved companies, while maintaining maintenance records for presentation to the competent authorities.
- Preventing random storage in escape corridors and exits, and separating dangerous materials into warehouses that comply with technical requirements.
At the level of organization and readiness, the symposium recommended the following:
- Forming an internal emergency committee in each facility that includes an evacuation team and a primary firefighting team, provided that they are trained theoretically and practically twice a year in coordination with the Civil Protection Department.
- Posting evacuation plans and self-illuminating information signs on all floors, and ensuring that emergency exits are free of any obstructions around the clock.
- Conduct a mock evacuation experiment at least once every 6 months, and document its results and observations.
- Providing manual firefighting equipment appropriate to the type of hazards in the facility, and training workers to use it.
- Ensuring the ability of civil protection vehicles and equipment to reach the facility, and ensuring the validity of water sources and fireboxes.
The symposium also recommends:
- Appointing a qualified occupational safety and health official in each facility, who will be responsible to the administration for implementing these recommendations.
- Conducting an internal monthly self-inspection, and submitting a report of observations and corrective actions to senior management.

Under the generous patronage of Professor Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of the University, Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Khaled Salah, Dean of the Faculty, and Professor Dr. Mohamed Safwat Abu-Rayeh, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs and Supervisor of Student Activities at the Faculty, the Assiut Motorsport team participated in the RoboRacer Sim Racing League ICRA 2026, a global university competition in the field of autonomous driving car racing using simulation.

The competition was held online, with teams preparing and submitting their systems electronically. Performance was then evaluated within a simulated environment by the competition organizers.

The competition took place during May 2026 and included a qualifying round followed by the final round. Our team achieved a remarkable accomplishment, securing seventh place globally out of 73 university teams from around the world and first place in Egypt and the Middle East. The participation was supervised by Dr. Gamal Abdel-Nasser, Coordinator of the Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering Program and the team's supervisor. Eleven students from the team, which has over 80 members, participated in the competition. The participating students were Mohamed El-Gohary, Abdel Rahman Hamouda, Saif El-Dabi, Sama Ahmed, Aisha Ahmed, Steve Joseph, Sajda Mohamed, Jana Mahmoud, Mohamed Abbas, Ahmed Ashraf, Abdel Rahman Mohamed, Mohamed Emad, and Doaa Essam.

Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Khaled Salah, stated that this achievement represents a significant step for the Assiut Motorsport team. The team achieved a high international ranking and raised the profile of Assiut University in an international competition with the participation of numerous university teams from around the world. This reflects the university and faculty's commitment to supporting student activities and encouraging students to participate in international competitions.

In this context, Dean Dr. Khaled Salah extends his sincere congratulations, thanks, and appreciation to Professor Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of the University, and Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, for their continuous and unwavering support of student activities at the faculty, which has resulted in this great achievement.

The Faculty of Engineering at Assiut University conducted an evacuation drill for its workshop building on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, as part of a training exercise on building evacuation procedures in case of hazards.

The drill was held under the auspices of Professor Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of the University, and Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development. It was supervised and attended by Professor Khaled Salah, Dean of the Faculty; Professor Mohamed Safwat Abu Raya, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Professor Salwa Abdel Rahman Megahed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Mohamed Aboul-Qassem Mohamed, former Dean of the Faculty, who delivered an introductory lecture on workplace hazards and how to respond to them during evacuation; and Mr. Raafat Bakr, Secretary General of the Faculty. The drill was conducted under the supervision of Professor Mo'men Mohamed Sayed, Director of Security; Professor Mohamed Abdel-Aal, Director of Civil Defense at the University; Professor Mohamed Mohi, Director of Security at the College; and a number of security personnel from the College and the University's Civil Defense, with the participation of a large number of staff members.

The drill was carried out in cooperation with the University Security and Occupational Safety Department, hospitals, and various other relevant entities. The University Security Department, fire trucks from the University's Civil Protection Department, and ambulances from hospitals all participated.

During the orientation lecture, Professor Khaled Salah, Dean of the College, indicated that the training exercises are part of a series of training courses aimed at disseminating a culture of risk management and prevention to ensure the safety of individuals and facilities. This is achieved through the practical application of how to take optimal and appropriate action in hazardous situations, thus protecting lives and property. He commended the College of Engineering for its facilities, laboratories, and green spaces, which require proper and comprehensive maintenance and protection.

His Excellency also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the university administration, headed by Professor Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of Assiut University, and Professor Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, commending their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all individuals and facilities within the university campus. He also acknowledged their continuous efforts to promote a culture of civil protection, raise awareness of firefighting mechanisms, and implement proper procedures to prevent fires and minimize their risks. He further noted the ongoing dedication to training and qualifying all university employees across various sectors to consistently adhere to public safety and security procedures, and to enhance their expertise in this vital field.

In the same vein, Professor Dr. Salwa Abdel Rahman Megahed emphasized the importance of such training courses, which aim to disseminate a culture of civil protection and raise awareness of mechanisms for preserving human life and protecting facilities. She also thanked the university administration for providing continuous support at all levels, stemming from its full awareness of the importance of civil protection and its commitment to safeguarding individuals and facilities from hazards.

Professor Dr. Khaled Salah, Dean of the College, received on Sunday, 5/17/2026, Professor Dr. Osama Abdel Ghafour Hodhod, Professor of Properties and Resistance of Materials at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, on the sidelines of his participation in judging the master’s thesis submitted by the researcher, engineer Manar Zakaria Mahmoud, entitled “Assessing the quality of concrete structures using the speed of ultrasonic pulses,” as an external referee, with the participation of Professor Dr. Omar Ahmed Farghal, Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, as an arbitrator. Internal, which was conducted under the supervision of:
- Professor Dr. Shehata Al-Dabaa Abdul Rahim.
- Professor Dr. Islam Muhammad Abdel Latif.
- Professor M. Dr. Muhammad Khaled Nafadi.
It is a thesis funded by the Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority within the framework of the Graduate Student Support Program (Second Call - Project No. 48924).
Mr. Prof. Dr. Osama Abdel Ghafour Hodhod praised the research efforts made within the college and the university’s academic and research development and distinguished educational structure. For his part, Mr. Prof. Dean of the college expressed his sincere appreciation to His Excellency for his participation in judging the thesis, stressing the college’s keenness to strengthen the bonds of academic and research cooperation with various scientific expertise in a way that contributes to supporting the educational and research process.
The thesis dealt with assessing the quality of concrete structures using non-destructive tests, with a focus on the ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) test, studying the factors affecting its results, and the extent to which it can be relied upon to estimate the resistance of concrete to pressure. The study included an integrated laboratory program that included testing a number of concrete mixtures under different conditions and ages, with the results analyzed and compared to relevant international specifications.

The Dean of the Faculty Participates in the Syndicate's Ceremony Honoring Professors, Graduates, and Students of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering.

Professor Dr. Khaled Salah, Dean of the Faculty, participated in the ceremony honoring professors, graduates, and students of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering, held by the General Division of Mining, Petroleum, and Metallurgical Engineering at the Assiut branch of the Engineers Syndicate on Sunday, May 17, 2026. The ceremony was held at the kind invitation of Mr. Haitham Abdel Hamid, Head of the Assiut branch of the Syndicate, and in the presence of Dr. Manal Metwally, Head of the General Division of Mining, Petroleum, and Metallurgical Engineering at the General Syndicate of Engineers; Eng. Abdullah Fathi, Treasurer of the branch; and Eng. Hazem Hassan El-Khasht, a member of the board of directors of the branch of the Mining, Petroleum, and Metallurgical Engineering Division. Several members of the General and Assiut branch councils were also in attendance.

The ceremony included the honoring of a number of faculty members, top graduates, and top students in the Mining and Metallurgical Engineering Department, in recognition of their contributions to the specialization. In his address, the Dean of the College emphasized the significant support provided by the Syndicate for student and community service activities within the college, including support for student graduation projects and ongoing communication between the college and the Syndicate. He also noted the participation of the Head of the Assiut Engineers Syndicate as a member of the College Council. The Dean expressed his gratitude to the General Division of Mining, Petroleum, and Metallurgical Engineering for honoring members of the College's Mining and Metallurgical Engineering Department.

Students received training and a lecture from faculty members of the Electrical Engineering Department at Assiut University, presented by Professor Dr. Mazen Abdel-Salam, Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University.

The visit was received by Professor Dr. Mohamed Abbas Abdel-Radi, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, and Professor Dr. Mazen Mohamed Abdel-Salam, Professor of Electrical Power Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University.

Professor Dr. Khaled Salah, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, explained that this visit reflects the academic standing of the Electrical Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University, and its members.
