A team including a graduate from the Electrical Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering secured second place in the Huawei ICT Competition finals.

Huawei ICT Academy - Egypt announced that a team of graduates, including Eng. Kyrillos Magdy, a 2022 graduate from the Electrical Engineering Department's Electronics and Communications Engineering program, achieved second place (along with other teams) in the Huawei ICT Competition 2025-2026 finals held in Shenzhen, China. The team, which included the alumnus, won second place in the Network Track.

The team's participation was through the Huawei ICT Academy - Egypt and consisted of Kyrillos Magdy Lotfy Habib (Assiut University), Ramy Khaled Kamal El-Din Moharram (Arab Open University - AOU), and Mohamed Khaled Eid Youssef (Higher Institute of Engineering and Technology, Fayoum). Professor Khaled Salah, Dean of the College, explained that this achievement reflects the high quality of the college's educational programs and their ability to equip graduates with highly competitive, globally-minded skills. This, coupled with the skills and qualifications required by the local job market, enables graduates to stand out among their peers. This success is made possible through the support and guidance of the university administration, headed by Professor Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of the University, and Professor Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs.

The Dean extends his sincere congratulations to Engineer Kyrillos Magdy on this significant achievement and wishes him continued success in future competitions. He also congratulates all members of the Electrical Engineering Department and the Electronics and Communications Engineering program on this distinction.

Within the framework of the university and college's ongoing support for academic excellence and community-oriented scientific research, and in the spirit of collaboration between the college's various scientific disciplines, fourth-year students in the Electrical Engineering Department – ​​Computer and Control Program – under the supervision of professors from the Electrical and Civil Engineering Departments, have achieved a distinguished scientific accomplishment by publishing a research paper derived from their graduation project studies in the journal "Sustainability." This international journal is ranked in the second quartile (Q2) of the Web of Science database and the first quartile (Q1) of the Scopus database. This achievement reflects the outstanding academic level of the college's students and their ability to compete in research at the international level.

Professor Khaled Salah, Dean of the Faculty, explained that this achievement represents a serious model of academic cooperation between the various scientific disciplines within the Faculty. Furthermore, it exemplifies applied scientific research that strives to provide engineering solutions to societal problems. This underscores the role of the University and the Faculty in preparing students and graduates capable of employing the latest artificial intelligence technologies to solve real-world problems and serve the community. This reflects the serious collaboration and integration between the education, scientific research, and community service sectors at the University. He expressed his appreciation for the significant support from the University administration, headed by Professor Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of the University, and including Professor Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Professor Gamal Badr, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, which culminated in this honorable result for the Faculty and the University.

The Dean also extended his thanks and appreciation to the faculty members supervising the students from the Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering departments for their significant collaborative efforts. He also congratulated the students of the Electrical Engineering department on this outstanding scientific research achievement.

The research paper, titled "Adaptive Traffic Signal Control Using Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning: A Comparison of Control Strategies," explores the development of an intelligent adaptive traffic signal control system using artificial intelligence and multi-agent reinforcement learning (MAR) techniques. This system enables traffic signals to collaborate in real-time to make more efficient operational decisions, thereby reducing traffic delays, shortening queues, and improving traffic flow within urban networks.

Professor Mahmoud Awais explained that the study's significance lies in its reliance on a real-world case study in Assiut Governorate, specifically through the modeling and analysis of traffic flow at the 25th of January Bridge, a major traffic artery in the governorate. The results demonstrated the potential for employing artificial intelligence techniques to achieve tangible improvements in the performance of traffic intersections, positively impacting travel times, fuel consumption, and environmental emissions. Furthermore, the paper provides a scientific framework that can be utilized to support the state's efforts toward digital transformation and the implementation of smart city concepts and intelligent transportation systems, contributing to increased efficiency in the transportation system and an improved quality of life for citizens.

Professor Dr. Khaled Salah, Dean of the Faculty, received today, Monday, June 1, 2026, the members of the judging and discussion committee for the doctoral dissertation submitted by Dr. Islam Kamal Suleiman, Assistant Lecturer at the Egyptian-German Technological College, Assiut International Technological University. The dissertation is titled "Design and Analysis of Multi-Output Power Supply of Metal Forming Applications." The Dean received Professor Dr. Al-Moataz Youssef Abdel Aziz, Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, and Rapporteur of the Committee for the Promotion of Professors and Associate Professors in the field of Electrical Power and Machines at the Supreme Council of Universities; Professor Dr. Gamal Mahmoud Desouki, Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Minia University, as external examiners; Professor Dr. Hamdi Zeidan, Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University; and Professor Dr. Khairy Fathi Abdel Sayed, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Sohag University, who supervised the dissertation. The reception was attended by Professor Dr. Mohamed Abbas Abdel-Radi, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, and Professor Dr. Ahmed El-Naeem El-Nozahy.

During the meeting, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Assiut University emphasized the Faculty's commitment to providing a distinguished academic and research environment that contributes to producing scientific research with practical applications serving industry and sustainable development. The meeting also included friendly discussions on ways to support scientific cooperation among Egyptian universities.

Professor Dr. Hamdy Zeidan, the thesis supervisor, explained that the thesis addressed the design and analysis of multi-output power systems for metal forming and welding applications, utilizing solar energy, artificial intelligence techniques, and optimization. A comprehensive practical component was implemented within the laboratories of the Faculty of Engineering at Assiut University, resulting in the publication of four peer-reviewed scientific papers based on the thesis findings.

Professor Dr. Khaled Salah, Dean of the College, met with the college's administrative staff on Sunday, May 24, 2026. The meeting focused on thanking the administrative staff for their efforts and the high level of performance the college has witnessed, in which the administrative staff plays a significant role.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of concerted efforts from all members of the college to finalize the application for the Government Excellence Award in the category of government colleges. The Dean stressed the commitment to overcoming all obstacles and providing all available data to the team.

Assiut University Achieves Global Success in Robotics and Intelligent Systems

In line with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's vision to support innovation and applied student activities, the Assiut Motorsport team from the Faculty of Engineering at Assiut University achieved seventh place globally and first place in Egypt and the Middle East in the RoboRacer Sim Racing League ICRA 2026 International University Competition.

The team included students: Mohamed El Gohary, Abdel Rahman Hamouda, Saif El Dabi, Sama Ahmed, Aisha Ahmed, Steve Joseph, Sajda Mohamed, Jana Mahmoud, Mohamed Abbas, Ahmed Ashraf, Abdel Rahman Mohamed, Mohamed Emad, and Doaa Essam.

This achievement reflects the excellence of Egyptian university students in the fields of mechatronics, robotics, and intelligent systems, and their ability to compete in specialized international forums, thus supporting the state's direction towards building qualified personnel in the fields of modern technology and artificial intelligence.
