Research Abstract

Some new azo-dye sulphonamides based on 5-sulphonylpiperidino and/or (morpholino)-8-hydroxyquinoline (1,1') have been synthesized by diazotization of 4-aminobenzene 4'-(substituted heterocyclo-)-sulphonamide derivatives and coupling with 5-sulphonylpiperidino-(morpholino)-8-hydroxyquinoline in acid medium, affording the corresponding substituted 7-f4-azo-4'-substituted benzene sulphonamido]-5-sulphonyl piperidino-(morpholino)-8-hydroxyquinoline (2a-h, 2'a-h) as ligands. Interaction of these ligands with metal salts Hg2+, Cu2+ and Fe3+ in solution afforded the corresponding metal chelates (3a-c-10a-c). All the synthesized compounds have been screened in vitro for their antibacterial activities. The synthesized compounds were investigated on the basis of microanalytical data, IR, UV and [1H]-NMR spectroscopy
